The tears still well
It's been two weeks. I can no longer pretend she's on holiday or at work. She used to work weekends so it shouldn't be hard to handle having an empty house. It's the evenings that are the worst, even though she wasn't always here in the evenings, staying over with her boyfriend or other friends on some nights. But now I'll never hear her car pull up in the driveway or hear about her day. I can never share just casual chatter. I'll never hear her prepare meals in the kitchen or hear her call "dinner!" and eat her wonderfully tasty food.
I feel so alone, so isolated. Even those who know she's gone don't ask how I am. They seem embarrassed somehow. They don't want to deal with someone's depression or sadness. Perhaps if they think they'll ignore it it'll be ok. Perhaps they're afraid I will cry. I won't. I only cry in private - a few tears that fall silently. But just a "how's it going?" would be nice.
I knew it would come - it had to come, when my youngest would leave. I've been lucky that she stayed as long as she did. But knowing doesn't prepare you. Nothing can prepare you.
Instead I have to try and keep busy and not seek reliance on others. Instead I must be happy for her, embarking on a new and exciting life. You go, girl!
