The sun is high and our home is silent for now

Good morning journal, the time is 9:09am and I have been awake for around an hour or so,first mug of coffee of the day and I came here to my desk for a short visit.I find it much easier to put my thoughts into print when our home is silent as it is now, save for the noise of the workmen who are still laboring away in the upstairs apartment in an effort to make it habitable and fit for leasing, they have been there for almost two weeks but hopefully they will be finished soon, that in itself will be a relief to our youngest dog Caesar who is still very much in protection and defend mode. This morning,I am much more relaxed in my mind and my spirits are in a peaceful place, the sun is high in the sky even at such an early hour of the day.Yesterday,I went to the local hospital to replenish my hearing aid batteries, but as yet I have chosen not to wear them today, preferring the silence that enables me to think better and ease my powers of concentration, that is where I have the advantage over a hearing person,I can choose whether I want to hear or not, which is sometimes a definite plus.Over the last couple of days my thoughts and prayers have been concentrated on the tragedy in Oklahoma,my wife being American,it is something which is very close to her heart, and I pray that God will ease the suffering and grief of all those poor unfortunate souls affected by the tragic events that have taken place there. It is at times like this that we sometimes question God,why has He let this happen?,why didn't He intercede and prevent it?,we don't know because we are not meant to know, but sometimes the events of the world are hard to understand and even harder to take, even when your faith is as deep and steadfast as my own.I have questioned God in the past,I don't know a Christian who hasn't,but only God knows the reasons why things happen, good or bad,we are merely asked to have faith and believe that out of every tragedy will come a greater strength and a renewal of hope for those involved, and although it is hard sometimes,I believe in Him,I cannot do otherwise for I have witnessed His power and His love first hand, when my daughter passed away,I was angry at the world,at God and myself, but over the years I have come to know a comfort and an understanding of why He chose to take my girl, she was in pain for almost the whole of her seven years here on Earth, and finally He said enough and ended her suffering, that is His mercy,I don't have to understand it,I don't even have to like it,it is just another part of God's love for us that passes all human comprehension, even though it seems too much to bear sometimes.Today I can think of my girl with love, and with gratitude that I was chosen to be her father, even for such a short time, yes there are tears sometimes, lots of times, but I know that she is no longer in pain, and that in itself is a source of huge comfort to me.I believe firmly that without pain there can be no compassion for others, how can a person who has felt no pain in life feel compassion for those who have?,to feel compassion, you must first understand the feeling of pain,it's not a great revelation,it simply makes sense.Today,I am grateful for the pain I have been asked to endure in my life,I believe that it has made me a much better human being, even the suffering of losing a child, for I have been able at times to say on more than one occasion over the intervening period of years since to people who have themselves suffered the loss of a child,"I understand,I know how you feel",and I have seen in their eyes that they know I'm telling the truth.Well journal,we got a little deep this morning,I didn't intend to but sometimes my fingers type things I didn't know I was thinking until I read what's before my eyes,so until the next time, let us walk the path God has chosen for us this day,and may His peace and love go with us.

Scott, my son was in Joplin, Missouri, when the tornadoes hit Oklahoma. In fact, he called me from a \"safe room\" at WalMart where he took shelter with 100 other people after a tornado warning was issued. He said he didn\'t feel very safe there, so he left, took a shuttle the one mile to his hotel room, and called me back to say how much safer he felt there. It was a hopeless feeling for me that day, knowing my son might be in possible danger and I was too far away to help him. I just had to trust God and, of course, God brought him out without a scratch. I don\'t know if you\'ve seen any of the pictures, but Moore, Oklahoma, is totally destroyed. It\'s horrible! The pictures look like it\'s been hit by a nucear bomb! Even so, there are heroic stories by the residents there that brought me to tears. Please pray for the people of Oklahoma. They have a very long road ahead of them. Love and hugs.
