The Snow Crest
My work on the contractor's masterpiece was interrupted by deafining sirens that could only be a formal warning system. The sound was nearly identical to the blitzkrieg sirens I hear on the WWII movies. How's that for an authoritative source? For sure the sirens were coming from the direction of confluence of the Tennessee and Ohio Rivers. I know the river dreams are on hold --AGAIN-- and possibly dead this time, but I couldn't resist attempting to find out. The smartphone user passing by couldn't tell me. Didn't find it on the internet and am chastising myself for wasting time looking, but. . .
Were the sirens announcing the arrival of the snow crest beneath this beautiful, clear sky? Does it matter?
Sigh. . .

The weather reports are geared to folks who can't tell a snow melt crest from a rain flood. Water is water, isn't it? Nature is to be conquered, not understood.
On behalf of the relatives of mine who rejoice to have their snow melt, I do apologize. In fairness, they hadn't seen the barn in a few months...

No need to apologize for the snow melt, Leo. It's a pretty neat spectacle for lower Mississippi River Cajuns and Creoles who are smart enough to expect it and design for it.
I know rivers, Patti. I always make certain my base camps are on high ground. Thank you for your concern. My conscience nags that I should be on the flood relief crews for the folks who build in flood zones, but. . .

One of my river dreams is of networking the impromptu crest parties which form around the passing of the annual snow crests. Currently the talking head dramas dominate the mainstream understanding of the snow crests. Disaster sells. . .
In natural fact, they are a natural result of Spring's return to snow country. Their slow moving routes and intensity can be easily ciphered with a smart phone. An elementary school student could do it if he/she knew to look. It is common for the crests to pass under sunny skies and warm temperatures, as is happening today in the river region. More so after it turns south at the Mississippi/Ohio confluence and is ampliphied by the upper Mississippi river crests.
But, maybe I do need to let my river delusions die a natural death. Disaster sells on the news programs. Disaster relief bills, etc., are good for the local economies.
