The Six-Month Setback

A grief counselor told me to not be surprised that after six months or so, after feeling a little better, to have a sudden regression back to what it was like right after I lost my wife.  The counselor was right.  And to confound things, it's right in the middle of the holidays, and our anniversary is on January 3.  Birthdays come up right after that.  So it's back to the listless, tired, uncaring world of grieving and depression.  Fun things aren't fun anymore.  Each day is just like the previous one.  It's a struggle to get through a single day, let alone another couple of months.  It's painful seeing so many people enjoying all the holiday season has to offer, and not wanting or being able to participate.  Things will never be the same.  I'm sure time will help heal the wounds, but right now I'm a bit impatient.

Hi Steve. I think we are in a similar state emotionally (although you\'ve finished your cards - a good example for me). I have just opted out of the whole Christmas hoopla this year. I\'m weary of the emotional grey and also impatient to draw a line under 2014.
Wishing you a new spark for 2015.

Some days are bearable and I think I\'m feeling better, but then something triggers my heartbreak. This Friday will be 6 months for me. It seems like yesterday, and yet it seems like forever.
You\'re absolutely right, Steve, things will never be the same.
Healing hugs,
Janie
