The Secret Of Indoor Playground
If you reside in a place like we do in Western New York (we're in Rochester!) With beautifully hot summers and cold snowy winters, you will understand your choices for your kid's birthday party are mostly determined by the weather.
As an August baby, we constantly had small family parties outside at my house. But, with sons born in November and March, we're always left to reserve an indoor venue for their parties, if we chose to have them that season. While those with kids with summer birthdays might appear blessed to have numerous choices at their disposal, it can also often feel overwhelming.
While in Climbing Vines Cafe and Play we might be biased because we host indoor jungle gym celebrations, I wished to discuss with you the 5 most common reasons we hear out of previous party customers to reserve indoor summer evenings with us. To these, the stress-free temperament of the indoor summer party is really a no-brainer, plus they are not looking back! Following their first indoor summer celebration , they continue hosting with us year after year.
1) NO WEATHER WORRIES
The most common reason for a client to reserve a summer indoor party with us is so they don't need to stem the weather forecast for upgrades in the weeks leading up to the celebration. Nothing can derail a fun celebration faster than having to cram all of your guests within your home, waiting for a storm to pass. And if you've ever had to cancel or postpone your child's birthday due to weather, then you realize how heartbreaking that could be.
We get dozens of calls every summer a couple of days before someone's outdoor celebration is supposed to take place to find out if we've got an open slot for them within our indoor celebration place because of weather woes. We can usually pull off this if the spot remains open, but hosts will sadly need to starve and allow all their guests know of the change in place and likely change in time, and change all their catering orders to accommodate their new party program.
While of course rain is most probably the largest obstacle you might face, intense heat, unseasonably cool weather, and wind can also pose issues for your food, decorations, and your guests' belongings. You will probably find yourself investing in a kayak or some other weather barrier just to ease your mind somewhat, which are costly and require lots of precious time to set up and take down. I won't even tell the story of the time my Dad put a tent up for a celebration in a windstorm and wound up with a insurance claim for 4 ruined automobiles when it withdrew (weights and anchors and all!) ...
Besides the obvious weather concerns you can avoid with an indoor celebration, there can also just be something really simple and lovely about an indoor summer celebration. Guests won't need to worry about bringing sunscreen and towels and towels and swimsuits and changes of clothing and insect spray... you understand.
Sometimes it's wonderful to take a brief break from the outside, sip coffee in an air borne cafe, and have an actual conversation with other adults while the kids play, rather than chasing children around trying to receive their fur on them keeping them away from your in-ground pool. I am not sure about you, but I can never quite relax at an outdoor summer birthday party with a two and a 4 year-old. While they sure do have a fantastic time running around, we usually leave at a daze or using a tantrum, unsure whether we even had time to chat or check in with everybody.
While I absolutely adore a fantastic barbecue or summertime grilling extravaganza, I also find it so refreshing when we can take a break in the same-old backyard bash and spend a couple of hours in a relaxing, cool, and most significantly -- included! -- atmosphere.
It is also freeing as a guest to have the remainder of the day to do as we want as a family and not need to be concerned about getting the kids to a bath right after the party or stopping home to cool off and change clothes.
I guarantee that if you reserve an indoor celebration for your son or daughter, guests (especially family) might appear a little confused at first (why not just take advantage of the summer weather while we could, right?) But after hosting countless indoor parties I can tell you for sure that on the day-of, you and your visitors will realize how pleasant it can be to kick back within an air-conditioned private celebration for a few hours.
Speaking of how relaxing an indoor, air-conditioned celebration could be, can we discuss food for a second?
Therefore, for our loved ones, the meals factor alone would be enough to warrant an indoor party.
Eating in peace without needing to find shade or a seat or a location away from pests is just one of those things that you do not realize can be so glorious until you attend your fourth or fourth outside summer gathering and THEN get a break from them. One of the most common things we hear is how nice it is to just sit and eat and watch the kiddos play with no any venue-related cares or worries. This is going to be especially important when you are going to be having elderly family members attend that can battle with being portable in the sand or marijuana and finding seating at outside parties.
Plus, when was the last time you attended an outdoor summer celebration with a full espresso bar and cafe available for guests to enjoy now that they don't need to worry about running around chasing their kids in the heat?
While party aesthetic might not be a determining factor for each and every family, it sure is significantly easier to make a themed extravaganza which lighting a child's face up when the party's indoors. The decorations required tend to be less because the place is smaller and contained contained, and you won't need to worry about balloons and streamers blowing all about or securing table covers .
Since we do host mobile events outdoors at Climbing Vines Cafe and Play, I can also speak from experience once I say the time that it takes to install (and take down!) Decorations for an outside celebration compared to a indoor celebration usually ends up being at least double. Finding good places to hang banners, needing two people to hold and protect everything, and locating weights or other restraints for everything can be a genuine hassle on celebration.
And you will have enough to worry about that afternoon, right?
Furthermore, if your pinterest boards are filled with cute centerpieces, a candy bar, or anything that may be impacted by wind (or bring bees!) You will likely have to restrategize for an outdoor soiree.
Not to mention decor typically can only be utilized once if used outdoors, but repurposed again and if used for an indoor event. Our guests that sponsor indoor occasions, especially those who spent significant money into decor or worked hard to create their very own, are pleased to find they can usually create a huge chunk of their cash back by reselling their materials something such as Facebook Marketplace.
5) YOU MAY ACTUALLY SAVE MONEY
Speaking of money, probably the greatest misconception I hear from customers is they want to sponsor a party at their home to save the leasing fee of an indoor space. I usually laugh at this because it makes great sense, that is, if you have never hosted an outdoor celebration.
With all of the"extras" such as tents, chair rentals, extra decorations, weather reinforcements, clean-up supplies, games and activities for the children (which you won't need to provide at a play place!) , pool toys, etc.... It is very likely you are going to end up spending MUCH more hosting a party at your house or an outdoor venue than you'd indoors.
I am not sure how other indoor spaces handle their supplies, but we only charge guests for additional beverages and provides and these on the day of the party if they wind up needing them, and we also enable parties to bring in their OWN food, dessert, and decor should they choose!
Money aside, spending countless hours cleaning before, during, and after the celebration can also take a toll. Wouldn't it be wonderful to walk into a sparkling clean area and leave with your guests when the party's over, not having to worry about the clean-up, trash removal, tent teardown, etc?
It's possible to just head home and relax with your loved ones (yes, maybe outside!)
In addition to the time spent cleaning prior to and after the celebration, wouldn't it ALSO be nice to not have to play"host" throughout the event? For clients that bring in their own food and decor, our dedicated celebration assistants set everything up, refill and fix food and beverages as needed, clear plates, cut and serve the cake, and then package up all the leftovers in the end of the party!
In the end, it is your child's special day and you want to spend those valuable hours making memories and seeing with your guests-- not running around chasing your decorations or refilling the fruit bowl innumerable times.
So save everyone (and especially your own family!) We would be honored to offer you an easy, enjoyable experience which will leave your whole guest list feeling refreshed, grateful, and filled with love after spending a relaxing (yet fun-filled!) day together.
