the power of truly understanding
I now know and understand in the past why I failed and failed every trying to cut back on drinking, or quit at certain points. I'm an alcoholic. I can't drink. The more I read and hear stories the more I understand. I've been sober for 8 days and I feel great. I've gotten over the cravings from last week. I find that I'm not ALWAYS thinking about when I can get a drink. Don't get me wrong. It's in my head. I just truly understand that I'm powerless over alcohol. I promise myself no matter how much time passes and if I ever get that feeling like I could handle it- it's just the disease talking. I'm NOT going back to square one.
My previous evenings of having cocktails, while helping kids with homework, while making dinner, while eating dinner, while cleaning up after dinner and while finally sitting down and relaxing and watching some tv has been replaced. I now look forward to getting as much accomplished as I can, then sitting down with some candles lit and nice hot cup of decaf tea.
I feel strong. I know that without DS and my friends I wouldn't be where I'm at.
I'm looking forward to my next AA meeting Thursday night!
