the pink lady

I ran across this story just now and at reading the words "the pink lady" I instantly realized I'd heard that phrase before. In 1966 I would have been 5 years old. Mom and dad were pretty conservative and the fact that the story went nation
al meant it was hard to avoid. I remembered hearing about her one morning as my dad was preparing for work. Being five years old in my parents home meant constant frustration as one query after another was turned away with the dreaded "its an adult thing" meaning I'd never get to the truth of the matter. But this one slipped past them, probably because the man on the radio stated a 60' pink lady had been painted to the side of a tunnel overnight and that she wasn't wearing much... Was there ever anything so scandalous to a child as a naked lady? Not in my household and certainly not in 1966... This was a big deal and thought it couldn't be broadcast on the television, I'm certain the radio was buzzing with news about her exploit's for the next several weeks, as court battles ensued and car loads of the curious made a conga line through Malibu for a look at her delicate charms. I'd forgotten all about her, this pink lady... She'd had made a sizable impression on my younger self but like so many wonders of childhood I had forgotten her completely, when suddenly... there she was, standing before me, as naked and unashamed as the day she was first revealed to the buzzing metropolis that was Los Angeles... After so many years it was good to finally meet her. I think the wait was worth it.
