The Personal 100%
I really am trying to kick the statistic habit. Numbers are a compulsion of my nature. Dustin Hoffman studied one of my less communicative counterparts to accomplish his magnificent performance in the Rain Man. Left to its own drives, the end of each day will find me reviewing percentages of important lists such as hair color, eye color, dye jobs, fake nails, grammatical errors... My sister keeps her names an average of 3.65 years. I took 3,892 steps today. There are 1,733 full tile squares on the restaurant floor where I had breakfast. 67 partials. Etcetera, etcetera, ad infinitum. One of those treacherous and unverifiable bodies of childhood memories contains dialogue of whether I was a math prodigy or idiot savant.
If I ever had prodigy potential, it is gone now. I can speak Biblical Aramaic better than I speak higher math. As it exists in my current realities, counting everything and everything is a compulsion that only distracts me from healthy socialization. I react to statistics like an ex-smoker listing reasons cigarettes are evil and should be banned from the world.
It remains a battle. I still read the bibliography before I read the report. If they don't show the math, I won't get to the report. I still catch myself counting the strokes as I stir the jello. I have laughed at myself for it 23 times already today.

I do the same thing numbers trigger me. Like counting money I will have a panic attack count it over and over it stresses me out.
