The Past
I'm tending to live in the past these days. I've been going to YouTube and listening to the old music,,,Gerry and the Pacemakers, Peter & Gordon, Chad & Jeremy, Peter, Paul, and Mary, Julie London, Pattie Page, The Beatles, Buddy Holly, and a bunch more,. Back in the days of my childhood in the 50s and 60s. I was lucky to grow up in the 50's. In those days, a kid could go anywhere and not worry about somebody grabbing you and doing bad things to you. You could get on your bike and ride anywhere. The only pressure you had was getting along with your parents. Parents that wanted to know where you were going. With whom and when you'd be back. Many times they told you when you would be back and if you weren't, you were in trouble. You didn't know it at the time, but those rules were what kept you safe. Even when you got to be a teenager, there were rules. It was tough because you were trying to get as much freedom as you could. When I got my drivers license when I was 14, a whole new world opened up. It got bigger because a car could take me farther from home. But, the car brought more rules. There were curfews. When I went out at night, my parents would figure how much time it would take for me to do what I wanted to do and set a time for me to be back. If there was a problem when I was out, a phone call was needed to tell them why I'd be late. It was an innocent time. Drugs weren't a problem. Oh, there were cigarettes and trying to get beer or hard liquor before you reached 21, but illegal drugs weren't around. Sex wasn't a problem because it took us a long time to learn about it and there were rumors about it that scared the h,,l out of you. And there weren't the magazines and movies like there is now. Like I said. An innocent time. Maybe I liked the time because there weren't the problems I have now. My biggest health problem back then was that I was fat. Now, I've been through angioplasty, bypass surgery, and MRSA. And have to deal with diabetes, COPD, and eczema. And I'm dealing with these problems alone.
