the old house

my current reluctance to start new journal threads gets a bit sticky when my life takes what feels like a totally new direction. the rennovation of the old farmhouse fits that distinction nicely. i think. maybe. research in progress. while the current project feels like a totally new direction, it remains deeply connected to other threads of my life. so far, my journal entries of the project have been posted under the thread from which this phase sprang. "linguistic snot knots" and "dumb broad show 2" are, i think, the two threads i have posted most of them on.

the old house was in even worse shape than we thought. termites had been feasting on the house for quite a few years, in addition to the scrappy construction placed in 1921 and the makeshift maintenance. what little of the old house remains has been reinforced with new materials to compensate for the age and termite damage. budget-wise, we are approaching that margin which proves it is often cheaper to raze the old and start over. those facts will remain muddy until this phase of the project is done.

still, methinks there is a proverbial light at the end of the tunnel. i am metaphorically clinging to the walls of the tunnel, just in case that light is yet another fast moving train and plying therapy tools to remind myself that a good outcome is as likely as another disaster. work has commenced on the finishing touches, such as sheetrock and siding. dare i hope? just hoping.

side note

on this grand experiment of organizing my journal by theme, i find myself enjoying the chronology of reviewing in forward progression. with the new blog tradition, one reads the latest first and works their way back to the beginning. when i post new entries as comments, the thread starts at the beginning with plenty of room to arrive at a new ending.
