The One

It seems I was born with a mark emblazoned on my forehead to mark me as 'the one' who would have to be there to bear witness to loss and grief, to be there when loved ones draw their final breatb. On Sunday when I arrived at my mother's her elderly cavalier had a very bad, hacking cough and needless to say it was me, on Monday, who took the dog to the vet and was with him, later in the afternoon when it was obvious he needed to go to sleep. His heart had collapsed and his lungs were filling with fluids. This death follows a series of deaths in the last few years.  Max spent a lot of time with me over the years. Invariably he came to me at times when Mum had a fall and was not managing so well. He loved our home in Fitzroy and loved being with our animals, loved the energy of the place. Times changed and after Darryl's death I moved. Maxie missed coming to the old house, felt it as my mother's health has deteriorated.   Vale Maxie. I told you Monty and Darryl would be there on the other side and to run as fast as your legs could carry you, to be there when Mum's time comes and she needs a guide.  Rest peacefully precious companion animal.

Awww, I am sorry. It hurts to lose a pet. My big Golden is 6. they usually only live until about ten. Four more years more or less. I know I shouldn\'t think like this but he was John\'s dog. He means a lot to me and even thinking of the time when he will be gone hurts.

So sorry to hear of your loss and yes it is still a loss with a pet. My pets are definitely parts of our family. I don\'t know how I would\'ve survived this journey without my 6 year old lab. Take care.

I was a breeder of British bulldogs for nearly 20 years and have lost ones I have nurtured since birth, and had my heart so very badly broken.
I am so sorry, for your loss and that you had to go through this, on your own - but you did it, you handled it, and you were able to provide a loving environment and see your loved on ,safely on to a place of rest and no more suffering which is so much better than him struggling on alone, and no one there.
You were able to support your Mum in it too, when she needed you- so she did not face it alone. What a loving generous and caring act.
You were courageous and did really, really, well especially as it is so much tougher in our situation and it\'s truly commendable. Well done!
You have my deepest condolances for your loss and my great admiration for your love and your strength!

I am so sorry. I know what it is like. I held my Erin when the vet said she would pass in 6 weeks if she had dialysis or I should let her go now. I choose to not torture her for 6 weeks and held her when she crossed over the \"Rainbow Bridge.\"

Oh dear. That one hurts, doesn\'t it? I held my beloved kitty, Smudgie, for the better part of two dayss as she slowly slipped away. She died Dec 5 just two days before my mother and probably in a very similar way. Mom was on the other side of Canada though and I was unable to go.
