The month of May

May used to be a month of celebrations for Jeff and me.  Both of our birthdays are in May and we were married in May, 1977.  Now May will be forever remembered as the month Jeff got really sick.  May, 2014, on Jeff's 60th birthday, I had to call 911 and have him taken to the hospital because he was non-responsive that evening.  They told me in the ER that he might not make it through the night.  He was unresponsive for three days and then on our anniversary he opened his eyes and said, "I love you, too."
What an anniversary present!  I will always cherish that memory. Several days later, he was transferred to Indianapolis to the hospital where his liver team was.  He stayed there until June 2.  I stayed with him at the hospital the whole time.  I cherish the time we spent together.  I told him I wasn't going home until he went home.  I have been a teacher for 37 years, and was able to have the whole summer off to take care of him.  I initially planned on going back to work in August, but came to the conclusion that I needed to be with Jeff more.  I am sooooo glad that I was able to use my sick leave bank of days and could be with him every step of the way.
This May, 2015, has been rough because I am reliving the beginning of our nightmare.
