The Letter

Back in April 2010, I received a letter in the mail that changed my life.  Anyone else get "THE LETTER"?  Actually, they had sent one 2 weeks prior and my children had misplaced it.  It was dated April 1. Ironic, as it was definitely not a joke.
I have since thrown the letter away but I held onto it for a long time.  It told me that I really needed to get in contact with them since my health could be at risk.
I spoke to my boyfriend about it and assured him that I would call.   So, the next morning I did.  The person on the phone said that I had been exposed to HIV and needed to be tested.
I was devastated at the news but I immediately called my boyfriend and felt so much better after our talk.  You see, I had gone to my ob/gyn and been tested for "everything" after a relationship ended where my boyfriend had been unfaithful.  So, then I spoke to my sister.... same reassurance (she actually had gone to the ob/gyn appt with me).
My daughter was over that morning and she went with my immediately to get tested.  The nurse was reassuring after she heard that I had been tested and it was a reationship from almost two years prior that would have put me at risk.
I got the call a few weeks later and went in for the results, with my boyfriend.  He was so very supportive through all of this, reassuring, and loving.
Together we learned that I was HIV positive.
