The Latest on Sherri
Hello All,
In microcosm, things continue to move forward and it looks like Sherri will be coming home soon, though we do not know exactly when. Her recovery is going well but she is dealing with substantial pain. The issue of pain control will determine exactly when she comes back home.
In macrocosm however, the big news (and I mean Really Really Big News (for all you Ed Sullivan fans)) is that the pathology report has come back, and the results are….
As good as they can be! The entire tumor was successfully extracted and all indications are it hasn’t spread to other areas!! Further testing on some 13 lymph nodes shows no sign of cancer whatsoever!!! It’s all good. When we ask the doctor what this means, he smiles and says, “This is excellent. Now there is only a 50-50 chance of the cancer returning.” Yahoo!!!
Wait a minute. 50-50? That’s the best we can do with excellent results?!?
Yes! That’s the best we can do!! After all, 50-50 is much better than 100% malignancy, so yahoo indeed!!!
And we must keep in mind the real test of all this is simply how things actually progress for Sherri. These results are merely the product of a plethora of pontificating pathology pundits positing and prognosticating (albeit admittedly alliteratively). Nonetheless, as mildly indicative yet not strictly predictive data goes, this is the best we could hope for. The fact of the matter remains that Sherri is tumor free now, which definitely increases her time substantially and quite possibly permanently. If loving and caring account for anything then Sherri has many many years ahead of her now. :)
Apparently they incinerated all the tissue removed during the operation (including Guido). Sherri has this to say about that:
Sherri: “Guido can kiss my ash!”
Guido: [smoke dissipating]
Things are going well. There are no major tubes coming out of her anymore, she is no longer in high-risk care, she is tumor free (that is certainly worth saying twice) and she is just days away from returning home to a doting and adoring husband (with whom she spends most of her hospital time anyway) who will also be returning home with her. That may sound convoluted but not so much when compared to her meds schedule. :)
So stay tuned and know the time for meet and greets and enjoying the post-surgical-Sherri-world is coming soon. We both want to thank all of you for your generous cards, thoughts, notes, prayers, stories and inspirational quotes & messages. And Congratulations, you have been incredibly effective! We are overwhelmed (in a beautiful way) by this healing bounty. One amazing gift from this ordeal is experiencing the unlimited love of so many wonderful people. This sustains us and fuels our progress at every step. Thank you one and all for showing up in this crucial way. It’s made a huge difference!

That is WONDERFUL news! Sounds like things are moving along in a great direction to her recovering from surgery & treatment. Hopefully, each day will get better and all of a sudden (like me) a day comes when you think at the end of it - wow, I didn\'t think once about cancer, surgery, treatment and had just a normal \"before cancer\" day feeling. :-) Tell her I\'m so excited about her news & am excited to know she\'ll be posting and sharing her story to give others hope :-) Thanks so much for updating us, Howard. That is great news, man! One thing stands out for me; your undeniably apparent love for each other. I hope that\'s not too personal, but it\'s quite beautiful to read about. God speed on the healing process.
The 50-50 thing... That\'s just an average from those who have gone before you. No one knows better than you, Sherri is not average. Besides that, the statistical forecasts beg you to live in The Land of Might Be. Resist that temptation. Stay with us in The Land That Is.
Your oncologist might want to do post-surgical chemo as a just in case measure. This is good. I was disappointed when my doc suggested it. I sort of felt like he was doing an overkill. But I went along with it.
I think I did 2 rounds and reacted so badly that the doc pulled me off of it. Now, I wish I had continued.
So, here in The Land That Is, Sherri is cancer free, No Evidence of Disease. Celebrate that. Live with her. Laugh with her. Love her.
Sherri posted a picture that I really enjoyed. It was from your vow renewal in Hi. Her love and devotion to you is evident in her eyes. The flower in her hair drew attention to how lovely she is. You are well blessed, my friend, because that is all part of your and Sherri\'s Now.
