The Hard Part II
Whether to grieve the end of life or celebrate the end of suffering?
As of the last court hearing in July, the family court was giving serious consideration to terminating parental rights of my son and his wife. Their efforts to run their marriage by contemporary romance standards were resulting in destructive parenting. One does not often see happy children in the parade of self-absorbed beauties in the chick flick section of your local video store. Neither my son, nor his wife would have been allowed an audition for the casting call. Physical beauties and social sophisticates they wasn't. As with most of the nuts on their family tree, they were neither beautiful nor well-coiffed. Both suffered grievous mental illness. My son's mental illness was being called, "Paranoid Schizophrenia." His wife never opened to me far enough for me to know her plight, but morbid obesity is clearly on the list. That morbid obesity was an important element in the 2014 series of PTSD episodes which ushered in the sense that my son had married my mother. My mother always was a woman ahead of her time. She was morbidly obese long before it morphed into a cultural norm. With 11 children, her chubby knees ignored a great many rounds of hysterically crying children while she evered her what's on her way back to her eternally closed door.
The both loved their children as much as they loved each other. The discussion of terminating parental rights was devastating to them both. Despite my failure to approve of their parenting tactics, their wasnae ever a doubt in my mind that those children were dearly loved by both of them. I never doubted my mama sincerely loved me, either. Daddy, too, despite all his father fucking. Love isnae enough, despite what the Romance Novelists claim in their bachelor isolation.
Still I wonder if the accident was vehicular suicide. These two were romantic enough for a suicide pact. My efforts to *Not Go There* are failing miserably. The image of 4 hands on that steering wheel as the car turned into the path of the cattle truck behind them keeps coming back, no matter how hard I push it away.
I am far from confident about sending Big Bro back to school today. The school is quite harsh in its anti-bullying policies and Big Bro was issued two citations last week. Can we let his parents settle in their graves before we start issuing first grade criminal edicts? Who is bullyig whom here?
Ouch. . . I fear we are a ways out from achieving "Not Worse."

Thinking your nag flag has reason to fly, just not sure where the 'it' will land....hoping for all concerned it will land in a place of peace. In a work place, at least where I worked, when a family member passed we were given 3 paid day off. me, I called into work to not come in, they were my 'mental health days' .... not frequently, but when I needed them....emotional fever/temperature?
Big Bro is, indeed, bullying these days. So is Big Sis. Each and every bully bubble we have popped has resulted in a release of tears which we have answered with as long and empathetic cuddle as they need. I cannae fathom being able to accomplish that task in the company a dozen or two first graders with needs of their own.
Hmm. given the back story, I can see how despite your efforts not to go there, you are wondering nonetheless if this was not a case of vehicular suicide, arfie. If so, what would it mean? For example, would it mean they were even more deliberately passing raising their kids on to you to raise? Does that make it more acceptable or not to you? Of course, given the circumstances, it's something you may never completely know in any perfect, objective sense. It seems like something whose possibility must be settled in the heart instead. As you wrote, Hard Part II indeed.
They were not deliberately sidestepping the parental duties, Profie. Of that, I am certain. Custody of the children was taken from them when the police were called in on one of their more spectacular romantic waltzes. The both fought with all their hearts to regain custody. If abandonment was on their agenda, I saw no evidence of it.
When I spin the *IF* you propose. . . Well. . . Please not this morning. . . Today I am letting I.F. be an acronym for "Idiot Factor." This morning's grief cloud is fraught with more Idiot Factors than I can count on my fingers and toes. That is feeling like the highest math I can handle just now.
Hubs and I decided to keep Big Bro home today. The housing upgrade was nearly over the bureaucratic hurdle when the tragedy happened. It is time to push the buttons to make that happen. Girl howdy, Big Bro wants to be there for those button pushes. The loosely held Plan (stop laughing, you Gnarly Old Dickhead) is to have breakfast on the way to the office to make that happen. After Big Bro and Big Sis get to tour the demo house of course.
Stepping small, praying big and letting The Gnarly Old Dickhead lead the dance. . .
You still haven't told me what tune we are dancing to, Dickhead.
Arfie, have never seen parental rights removed based on one incident. Young children don't have the vocabulary to express their inner workings, and so they act them out. Just as you must find your way through the grieving maze, so must they. Big Bro does need to learn bullying is not OK, especially at school. The powers that be over the future of these children will look at his school record, especially attendance. You may want to give their therapist a heads up on this to assist him in working with them. Prayers for all as the walk through the maze continues for all.
Huge hug Arf….. It's hard when you don't have answers
Although we were estranged for 8 years my husband committed suicide last October and I felt terrible about it …. I believe though that he wasn't well and I have no doubt that he's in God's loving arms now because God is love
You get as mad as you need to.... He has broad shoulders..... Another hug and a blessing while you all work through the pain......xo
Yes, Simpson, Big Bro does need to learn that bullying is okay. So does Big Sis. For this week, learning how to be an orphan is the priority in my broken brain. Not a lesson I care to trust to sloganeers. This child sex trafficking survivor trusts the politically righteous about as far as I can throw their campaign headquarters. Compassion isnae their strong suit. They often remind me that W.A.R. is an acronym for "We Are Right." Beaten crazy bitch wolf on the run. Post haste. Good luck with all that rightery my high lumen bulb. May you be the rightiest right in the whole right pack. I sure am glad the right packs are brightly lit and noisy enough that evasive maneuvers are a no-brainer. Can that crowd even see beyond their own stage lights? Meanwhile they can be seen from miles off. Easy evasion. Targeting, too.
Uh-oh. . . Is my hyper-vigilance hypering again? ? ? Plying therapy tools. . .
Dunno, Jan, but I kinda feel like the Gnarly Old Dickhead is as pissed as I am over this particular series of events. So or no, I believe It/she/he feels my anger about like I feel the bully bubbles popping out of the two older siblings. Pop the blisters and ply healing salve on the wounds. For sure, even when I am pissed enough to howl with rage, I feel that loving presence howling with me. I am ever more convinced that love really is all you need. Even on my worst days, I really do believe Old Gnarly assigned a special troop of angels to get me through the cultural atrocities of my childhood. I believe It/she/he is okay with the full spectrum of unbridled passion. Even the bible seems to think so. The name is even less important.
I know your deeds; you are neither cold nor hot. How I wish you were one or the other! So because you are lukewarm— neither hot nor cold— I am about to vomit you out of My mouth! ~Revelation 3:15-16
My heart goes out to you with the politicking public school system. John did "I Believe" experienced More bullying from teachers than his peers. John didn't know 'how' to express his frustrations and anger, thus the acting out of '''bully'' behavior. One of my vivid memories of my poor kid, he threw a backpack coming into the class room....a very hard get on the bus so I followed. As I arrived through the doors, dear son was in a fucking body hold with one teacher holding upper body and an aide holding his legs! My hair stood on end, the results were a letter to say if that ever took place again I 'd sue the school, teachers board of directors....then I just cried like a baby for hours....as you know, John was kicked out of public s hool in the second grade...he suffered because he knew he was doing wrong but didn't have the ability , impulse control to behave like a robot.
This book, I carried with me like the Good Book....it brought me comfort and ideas of how to help John. The pain I carry in my heart for my poor son and his short years of life, throw me into the mix too, my hands are very dirty of the 'you shoulds'. This is audio

There is such a negative side effect of the 'time out chair'....I changed this to the '''calm out chair''' or the '''happy chair''' depending on the need. Those little GK's, I want to punch who ever sent the little boy home! Just curious, would there be a possibility of getting homework assignments all together for the rest of the week???? As far as the 'education powers that may be' checking up on absent days...sending home the little boy, well I got two words for them: Fuck You....my grand kids just lost their parents!
Sorry for the strong tone...this kind of stuff goes Right Up My Backside!
Putting on my stiletto's for Walking softly with a Big Bat! and Dancing On Heads!
Whether the sloganeers are attacking heretics, commies, druggies, toxic people or bullies, summarizing any human in a single political
campaign is guaranteed to wiggle dirty fingers in open, infected wounds. The current bully bashing fad is no exception and is blatantly sexist. Girl bullies are *just* being liberated women.
Issuing a bully citation to a 6 year old the day after he buried both parents is the sort of callousness I expect from a sloganeer. May my little bully never be as humane as you, my caped wonder. May you never have the opportunity to teach Big Sis your Mean Girl bully tactics. Yes, Ma'am. Girls can be bullies and abusers, too. I have the scars to prove it.
no words Arfie...my brain can not comprehend such 'bully tactic' towards a 6 year old....as I said, I think the teachers were the Biggest Bullies in John's years at school.....until he found 'his voice'. Prayers in progress for All~~
The good news is that the extra day off from school seems to have been beneficial for all. The pain of their grief is still blistering bully bubbles, but getting to tour the model home which is nearly on order settled both elder siblings mightily. Baby Sis is still to young for much more than serving as an emotional indicator of the emotions around her. She says we are not worse.
Big Sis's dance class went wonderfully. Big Bro is currently at his first Cub Scout meeting with Hubs. I am still hesitant to return Big Bro to the Bully Judges tomorrow, butttttaaaa. . . I do believe it would be best if we could resume the fragile routine we had been establishing before the tragedy, but he doesnae need grown-ups calling him mean names just now. The child is in enough pain already.
Thoughts of home schooling are drifting through my puzzlement. Home school can be lousy for socialization, but it might be the more sensible alternative. It doesnae feel like a good week to start radical new adventures, though.
Taking ^it^ a step at a time. We see how tomorrow dawns.
arfie, on NPR's Fresh Air show today I heard this long interview with this woman who lost two of her children. As a guy and one who never had kids, I can't even imagine what you're going through, but it sounded like she could. If sharing her with you is off point, forgive me, but listening to her helped me send my prayers your way, so I thought I'd share the link to her directly, too.

Totally agree with you Arfie on a no to 'a new venture' of homeschooling....just wondering if for ~only~ this week GS could have school work done at home to keep up with studies and to avoid the possibility of asshole teachers confrontations. I listened to t he podcast Muji sent...I thought from my own perspective, continuing grief healing, her words and emotions were very honest. In my own life of grieving, I walk with the Hot Burning Fire of pain under my feet at times, then to the more tolerable walking along side the steam from my breathing tears putting out the fire. For me a very slow process that continues daily....nothing like you are experiencing with loosing your son, rather me loosing family members.
I'm not processing electronic tones well at the moment, so I haven't listened to the suggested podcasts, etc. E-tones are not my faves on any day. On days like this one, my favorite recorded songs hit my nerves like an ice box compressor on the blink.
We are looking into live support. The older siblings started counseling last week. Works in progress for the tired old geezers who suddenly don't have as many hours in the day as they used to. Care for the caregivers? ? ?
