The Great Battle of the Crab Legs
I haven't titled this entry yet because I'm not exactly sure where I'm going to take it. First let's get the boring stuff out of the way...I'm unchanged on the health front. I still feel tired and sore and generally crappy but it hasn't gotten any worse. I guess that's a good thing . My Cpap machine is supposed to arrive next week so I'll see if that helps. I hope so. I'm tired of being tired. I still force myself to take my walks though. You have to do what you can do. On a less boring front, let's talk about something else. .eating out. I do enjoy eating out (of course, I also enjoy eating in. Hmmm..Maybe a pattern there!) My wife was in the mood for Chinese so we went to a Chinese restaurant (makes sense) and partook of their lunch buffet. (lots of food, not too expensive). Today being Friday, they featured their sushi bar and seafood items as well as their normal fare. I didn't mess with the sea food too much. Shell fish and oily fish might cause a problem with my gout and I have never been able to bring myself to eat raw fish...just too big a yuck factor. They also had crab legs for a little more money. Having neither the "more money" nor the inclination, I passed on the crab legs as well. The crab legs and the buffet did remind me of the time I was on an out of town trip with my baseball team back in my younger days. I,along with three of my teammates, left the hotel to go and get something to eat. Now I am not a small guy by any means. Even back then (I won't say exactly when then was...but let's just say that the word bicentennial comes to mind) I was a solid 210 lbs. However I was the smallest guy with that group. I'll just identify them by their nicknames.. to protect the guilty. Two of them were brothers and were called "Goon" and "Little Goon". The third guy was referred to as "Fat Matt" with some justification. We found a buffet restaurant and got in before the harried manager could slam the door. They too were featuring crab legs for a small extra charge. Now Little Goon and I passed on the crab but Goon and Fat Matt paid the extra and began to eat crab legs. And eat they did...soon the table was covered with crab leg debris, piled high by the two participants. Our waitress swept by a couple of times to clear the table..but she couldn't keep up with these two. Soon the manager came by with a 55 gallon trash can and pointedly placed it next to the two and said " Maybe this will help you out" in a voice dripping with sarcasm. Fat Matt didn't notice the sarcasm and replied "Good Idea. Thanks a lot." Goon merely grunted... and kept eating. It turned out well though. The other customers had noticed this little exchange and began to get into it. They chose their favorite and began rooting for their respective choice. Fat Matt wound up taking top honors but Goon also did himself proud. In the end, even the poor manager got into it...particularly since he knew we were leaving the next day. He took a picture of the two to commemorate the event...but I can't help but think that their picture is up front with the caption "Don't ever let these two in again!" When I make a journal entry I often(usually?) have no clue where it will wind up. My mind jumps around a bit so I just go along for the ride. In this case it brought me back to that out of town trip so long ago. I made an entry and came up with a title by taking the "yellow pages" approach. I just let my fingers do the walking. Be well, tom

Uh, Tom, who ARE you? Are you a famous baseball player? C\'mon, do tell! I enjoy when your fingers to the walking....such stories you do tell!
Nothing as grand as that. We were just a bunch of post adolescents playing a game. This was just one of our occasional out of town tournaments. Although there were some major league characters on some of those teams.
Hey, I went to high school with Ryne Sandberg, 2nd baseman for the Chicago Cubs for awhile. (That was around bicentennial year, too. Hmm, feeling old). He was very cute and very nice in high school! Unfortunately I didn\'t know him very well - it was a large H.S. It was funny, I went back to Spokane several years ago and visited the high school while I was there. I walked around the campus and saw that they\'d named one of the baseball fields after him. Most of the naming of buildings, etc., that I\'ve seen was posthumous due to an honor or donation in a will. It was funny to see it done for a someone I\'d been in school with.
