The funeral

Today was the funeral for my half-brother's girlfriend.  I have so much to write about a topic the preacher ended his sermon with, but I will save that for another day. In any case, boy my half-brother just amazed me.  He is a simple guy, very humble, blue-collar, etc.  He's not into any type of situations that puts him out front of others.  However, in respect to his deceased girlfriend, he did today.  After her son-in-law and daughter eulogized her, my half-brother came to the front of the podium.  As humble as he is, he immediately alerted everyone that he was not too good or fond of public speaking.  He then went on to give a beautiful eulogy og his girlfriend.  As he told the crowd, he tried to write what he wanted to say, but couldn't, so everything he said was spontaneous and from the heart. What he said was just beautiful.  He kept his composure the entire time and said what he wanted, and probably needed to say, outloud to everyone about the love he had for his deceased girlfriend.  As I listened to him speak, I was even sadder for him...knowing that his pain will grow in the coming weeks as he misses her more and more...but then happy for him to have 3+ year with a person who he loved and who loved his so much.  Some people go through an entire lifetime without ever receiving such love. Finally, I was so proud of him to be able to eulogize his girlfriend so well.  He told my mom afterwards that he felt his girlfriend was overlooking him...and hoped that she like what he said.  I'm sure she did. He carried out her final wish...which was to br driven away from the funeral home in the hearse she had recently purchased and was restoring.  Both of them shared a love for car shows...and she recently won an award at a car show for her hearse.  So her final wish was to have "one last ride"...which my half-brother was able to give her. I sit here and just think of the loneliness and pain my half-brother must be going through.  I wish there was more I could do or say to help.  Unfortunately, we all individually have to deal with whatever challenges/tragedies our lives present us.  I hope he is able to rise above this tragedy in his life.  Time will tell...
