THE FIVE REGRETS OF THE DYING

"THE FIVE REGRETS OF THE DYING

1. I wish that I had let myself be happier.

”This is a surprisingly common one.   Many do not realise until the end that happiness is a choice.
They had stayed stuck in routine patterns and habits  --  Status quo and keeping up with Jones.   Buying "things" instead of learning things.
The ‘comfort’ of familiarity overflowed into their lives and emotions.
Fear of change had them pretending to others, and to their selves, that they were content, when deep within, they longed to laugh whenever they chose to and have silliness in their life.”

2. I wish I’d had the courage to live a life true to myself, not the life others expected of me.
“This was the most common regret of all.
When people realise that their life is almost over and look back clearly on it, it is easy to see how many dreams have gone unfulfilled.
Most people had not honoured even HALF of their dreams/bucket list and had to die knowing that it was due to fear - be brave enough to be you and be brave enough to have faith in others as yet "unknown" to you.  In life all things are choices.  Not making a choice is still a choice.  "Choices made, or not made."
Health (generally of your youth) brings a freedom very few realise, until they no longer have it.”
3. I wish I hadn’t worked so hard.
“This came from EVERY male surveyed.   They missed their children’s youth and a partner’s companionship.
Women also spoke of this regret, but as most were from an older generation, many of the female patients had not been breadwinners and were often home with their children.  The next generation will have as many women as men who may regret this.
ALL of the men surveyed regretted spending so much of their lives on the treadmill of  work."  Working 20 to 30 hours per week builds confidence and makes a person stronger.  More work than that is destructive.  Balance is KEY in life and living.
4. I wish I’d had the courage to express what I really think instead of trying to be like everyone else.
“Many people suppress what they think and feel in order to keep peace with others.
As a result, they settle for an oppressed, suppressed, mediocre existence and never become who they are.
Many develop illnesses because of the stress of their bitterness and resentment - stress causes dis-ease [disease] as a result.”   Along with guilt of "feigning" affection for others where they have none.  Living a two-faced life - surrounded by people who are toxic to them.
   5. I wish I had stayed in touch with more friends.
“Often they would not truly realise the full benefit of friends until their dying weeks and it was not always possible to locate old friends - people move around globally nowadays and people die.   Many  become so caught up in new ventures that they let friendships slip by.
Many regret not giving friendship the time and effort it deserves.  Everyone misses their friends when they are dying and wonder what happened to them.”

The Travel List Challenge. I've been to 28 of 100 places on this list. How many have you been to?
We think most people will have been to less than 9 of these 100 places to see before you die.
