The Fisherman

The Fisherman

I'm on board a mighty ship her name is Redemption. Along with a faithful crew we sail out to the deepest darkest depths where the monster resides. The leviathan lurks those depths eating things cast out from desperation. Like souls lost to Depression. It loves the lost souls the most. It eats them then spews out vile hopelessness and lies that nurture it's horrible offspring named Depression. And so I hunt / angle for this horrendous monstrosity.  We reach the deepest depths in the Sea of Despair. The anchor rode goes down and down for miles till finally much later the anchor touches an unknown bottom. My line is cast into the depths. It more like a chain made of  God's love with my hope at the end of it in the form of a strong and razor sharp hook honed on the diamond strong hardened stones of free will and determination.  As bait I place my very soul my essence on the hook. I send it down down down to the lair of the great horrible beast. As my soul travels ever downward minnows of uncertainty nip at it. But it is a tough soul strengthened by the love and compassion of my friends and family. The minnows do little to no damage. Finally after what seems like an eternity the hook is at the deepest part of it's descent.  My soul puts out the sweet smell of courage and confidence. After a wait of an hour or so I feel something. First a tentative nibble then a little stronger experimental thump. The beast is wary but ever attracted to that sweet bait. Finally the take !!! The line pays out away from Redemption.  It comes tight on her side and I gently pull back ever so lightly so as to mimic a soul weakened by the depths Despair. It works! The huge beast closes its great maul on the hook and pulls very hard. I set that sharp hard hook of hope deep in the jawbone of the leviathan. The fight begins! Redemption lists to its side in response to that mighty thing at the end of my line. My hands are blistered as the line is pulled through them with speed and a force to be reckoned with. But I am not going to give in to the pain. I tighten my grip and pull ever harder. The give and take battle continues through what seems like many lifetimes. But little by little the line starts to come up. That great horrid thing begins to tire. I dare to rest and pay for it by losing a little line to it. But with my rest and the encouragement of the crew I grow even stronger. The Captain fires Redemption great wonderful engines fueled by love and compassion. I bring the line to the stern of that large vessel. The great mighty engines pull Redemption forward slowly aiding me in the battle of a lifetime. And it works!!! Finally the beast tires and is pulled from those depths to face the surface and God's own light. That light would eventually be the end for that vile enormous monster. But a harpoon is at the ready. It is fastened to another chain of love. This harpoon will thrust with a great effort of some mighty members of that glorious crew. I bring the thing to the surface. It's huge scales are dark and virtually colorless. Large parts of the monster are covered in a horrible slime and unspeakable parasites that feed on the leviathan's putrid essence. The horrific maul opens and closes as the monster gasps for the stagnant water that was it's home. The stench of its breath is almost unbearable. The harpoon is in position and with a mighty thrust of cooperation it finds its place deep within the side and through the black huge thing that is the monster's heart. We've won a hard earned victory over the leviathan.  It is towed to shore and displayed as onlookers gasp at the once mighty now conquered beast. After a while the thing is taken out and cast away into what was it's home. But now the Sea of Despair is transformed to the sparkling clear waters of Transcendence. The new sea is that things grave. Down into the depths it once swam and now it lays decomposing into food for things that have yet to be discovered. Satan has lost one of his strongest creations. And is greatly weakened by such a loss. The nameless thing is no more. But other things lurk in other depths waiting to be taken by me and other wise ones who fish those depths as God's fishermen.
