The First Step
Blood work came back from my routine annual exam. My cholesterol is 212 and triglycerides are through the roof!!!! I'm basically a vegetarian and my height is 5'4" and weight is 138. Definitely not a dietary issue. Definitely an alcohol issue. I've been binge drinking every night for what seems to be forever. It has finally caught up with me and this is my wake up call. Sunday, June 12, 2016 was the first day without alcohol in a LONG time. I even told my husband that the problem is apparent. He was oblivious to it all. That's a result of hiding and sneaking alcohol each night. It's shameful, I admit. But I couldn't even admit I had a problem to myself. So, here I go on a new journey.
So far, there has been no craving. I just have been cranky and I hope I'm not taking it too much out on my family. I'm trying to fill the void with exercise. I went for a 4.5 mile walk through the forest preserve last night and it felt great! I've also been filing the void with cooking and preparing meals and snacks. It's not much, but it's something instead of drinking.
Sleep hasn't been very easy. I've been taking allergy meds, so that is also helping me doze off. When allergy season is gone, I'll be on my own. I just hope I didn't replace one addiction with another.
It's just one day at a time. I poured out all my booze down the drain so there's no reaching for more.
Maybe I'll get another tattoo to mark the occasion and for a daily reminder.
