The first step

The first step is always the hardest right? Wrong. It is to keep going when the adrenaline of a new beginning wears off. I have joined daily strength to be truthful to myself and realise I have a problem.
So my story is quite simple, I am 21, from England and study nursing at university. On the outside I look happy and content, yet on the inside I battle with myself everyday.
I have self harmed for many many years, including overdoses in my mid teens. I stopped self harming for a few years, but unfortunately relapsed a short while ago. This relapse is due to university pressures, my relationship ending, and most importantly the passing of my grandmother who was such a big inspiration in my life.
My relapse happened in quite a dramatic way. I had been at a festival, seen my ex boyfriend, had an argument with my best friend which resulted in me slitting my wrists once I returned home. This required medical attention, and since then everything has changed.
My degree is in jeopardy, my house mates are wary, and I have been started on anti depressants and CBT. I no longer feel in control and I get scared when I feel down, yet I know it is only me who has the power to build myself up again. My wish is to be happy everyday.
My councillor suggests writing a journal, so maybe this is what that is? I'm not sure if it will help, but at the moment I am willing to try anything.
I don't know if this gets read or anything, but its the first step, and I hope I can get some support to keep going!

Hey I\'m glad you found DS! Yes these journals do get people reading them, so we\'ll know how you\'re feeling if you want is to read it. I\'m glad you\'ve realized the problem, and I\'m glad you\'re already receiving help from a counselor. I hope DS really helps you, and I\'m here if you need someone to talk to.

Hello friend, it\'s good to see you write. i want to send my condolences, i\'m sorry to hear about your grandmother\'s passing.
i know it\'s very sad, when we lose someone close to us, and can have an affect on our lives. sometimes, things can feel like they\'re out of control, and we need support, and comforting care, from the people, who are closest to us. i\'m thankful you have your family, friends, and also you joining DS, is gonna be very beneficial to you too. to write, sharing your experiences, and healing journey. writing is a good outlet, that can bring us more healing, and helping us grow more into the progress and achieve goals we want to accomplish.
having a journal, is a really good thing to have. i always find, that after i write, i always feel much better.
being able to re-read our journals, and seeing how far we have come, is a great feeling :)
i\'m happy you have found DS here, and are communicating. You are taking wonderful first steps, in reaching out to others, and writing :) You are a survivor, and i know you will continue to make the progress you seek :) one day at a time :)
through the ups, downs, triumphs, and trying times, we really do learn, how strong we are, and how we have so much to look forward too, with our futures :)
i encourage you to continue to write, and share, when you want too :) it can really help a lot :)
sending my well wishes, and prayers :) keep strong, and continue to take good care of yourself :)
