The proper definition of Mining Ventilation can be explained by saying that it is the process of digging way below the surface of the earth to excavate any minerals or ores which are found in the surface of the earth. The primary objective of underground mining is to extract these minerals or ores as safely and as economically as possible and not leave any waste behind. This industry requires a lot of heavy machinery and the work needs to be done efficiently and properly. More so because of laws nowadays this also needs to be done in manner that will not harm or badly effect the environment.
The different types of underground mining that are available these days
- Room and pillar mining. This method is considered to be the most common and popular method of mining. This kind of mining is done in an ore deposit where some of the ore is left behind to form columns in the mine that prevents it from collapsing. This kind of mining is used for coal, iron, copper, cobalt mining.
- Long wall mining. This is a much more modern method of mining. This type of underground mining id to used to extract coal from coal beds. This was essentially implemented to remove the use of room and pillar mining.
- Shaft mining. Shaft mining is used to extract any metals or minerals directly from the earth. The shafts are vertically driven below the earth to to get access to the minerals. This method is perfect for minerals like coal and iron which are deeply embedded in the earth.
