The days of my life!
Well, it took more than a month for them to finish up, to our satisfaction, the work after the fire. We have been left with a house full of large brown boxes to unpack. 224 of them to be exact. The strange thing is that they labeled everything (supposedly) with the room from which it came. Really can't figure that out since stuff from the living room is in boxes labeled "porch" which is our nicely finished utility room. But in the bottom of those boxes I can actually find things from other rooms. It really makes me wonder if any of these men have actually moved themselves and if so, did they pack or did their wives? It they had anything to do with it I sure pity their wives. Now comes the new issue for the day. Last Friday, dh was using his Deere to the private road we have been blessed in owning. All of a sudden a neighbor came out and started talking about "his property" and how we were messing it up. This is the same property we spent almost $3000 fixing about 3 years ago. The other 2 houses that share that road, of course, didn't have any money to fix the road. So, bottom line, we paid for it. Now it is all full of ruts again and in terrible shape. I drive across the field to get to our daughter who lives on that road. That is how bad it is. Anyway, on Sunday he went over to till the ground on our property so we could plant grass seed. A little dirt went across the property line, so he went over (no fences) to scrape it back up and leave it clean. The next thing he knew, a Sheriff Deputy pulled up and told him he was being accused of trespassing. (no signs either, mind you) This aggravating neighbor began shouting and telling the deputy that he didn't want us to be doing work on his road because we were messing it up. The Deputy told him that he couldn't do anything about it because he didn't know where the property lines were located. He also told the neighbor that he could file charges if he so chose. You guessed it!!!! This morning we were awakened by loud knocks on the door. I headed to the door in my nightie to see what was the noise. Imagine my surprise when I found a Sheriff Deputy standing at our door. I asked him to wait just a minute to get some clothes on and explained that my dh was no yet up. I ran to the bedroom, grabbed some clothes to put over the nightie and woke up dh. He discontinued his oxygen and went to the door in his jammies. Whereupon, he was told that "criminal charges had been filed against him for property damage." After a brief discussion, the deputy said not to worry. Although he was supposed to arrest him, he would not do that. We were given the paper telling us that we have to be in court at 8:30 AM on May 7. (Happy birthday & anniversary supposedly come around that date.Even funnier than all this: This neighbor does not even have a deeded right-of-way to travel this private road. So, this afternoon, we are headed to a lawyer. Monday I had already been in touch with a surveyor who had don’t the property before and this neighbor had promptly removed the stakes. He will be re-setting the steaks and already said if it comes to a court action, he will go with us. I also went to the court house and have copies of the deeds. Hoping the good Lord will bless us with this and that we have a good enough lawyer to represent this and win. Please pray for us.
