The Darn Car
The darn car that DH bought a few years ago--the one I didn't want him to buy without getting rid of the old one first--is turning out to be a lemon!
This past fall, it started making a funny noise then started becoming hard to turn. I told DH that I thought it was the power steering. He didn't think so, but would get it taken care of sooner or later. Well, about a month ago, he scheduled to have it worked on, as well as for them to look at the rear window, which seemed to have a leak or problems with the rubber thing that kept water from getting in. It turns out that there was a leak in the power steering (I knew it!), and that a body shop would have to look at the window because it was all rusted on the inside. (Note: this car is not very old!)
Hundreds of $ later, the power steering got fixed & DH got an estimate on the window (another $500), which is not taken care of yet. But yesterday he was driving it & suddenly it became very very hard to steer! So he brought it back to the dealer and apparently some different stuff on the steering has gone & needs to be replaced & is very labor-intensive. Estimate=$1300!
I can't believe that a car this new (yes, we bought it used, but it wasn't old to begin with) has this many problems. I wish his parents did not put $ down and insist that he buy it. I'm sure we could have found something much more reliable around here. The next time they try this kind of stuff, I'm putting my foot down.
As it is, his dad wants us all to come down to NC (where DH's aunt & cousins live) at the same time as him & DH's 2 brothers and sister. But with the dog in the condition that he's been, we'd have to kennel him AND DH would have to take off that time without pay. So it would be like not having him be paid for a month. All this before DD starts college.
