The Butterfly

The Butterfly is a constant figure in my house and has been for over five years now. My grandchildren that are MayLyn's children recognize the butterfly as a part of their Mother that lives here with us on thisĀ earth. It gives them peace and keeps her memory alive in their minds. At my Parents house, which is where MayLyn was laid to rest, the butterflies actually play with my children outside, running through the forrest and sometimes it even looks like they are playing tag. At any given time during this time of the year you can almost always see butterflies above their heads when they are playing. It is a magnificent sight and always brings tears to my eyes.On April 8th which was the 5 year anniversary of MayLyn's Heaven date, we spoke to the kids about their Mom and remembered all the games we used to play and we spoke of signs that we haveĀ seen on occasion that remind us so much of her that we stop whatever it is we are doing and reflect upon her and what she meant to us. Tina and Hunter asked if I had been given any signs lately, I replied with "No, not lately, and I would love to get one because they make me feel so warm and loved when they happen". Hunter looked at me and said "no worries Mimi, it's coming, I just know it". I smiled at him, he is so loving.Last Monday we were driving down the highway, just past our home on my way to get finger printed at the local cop shop for my ABC card for work when we hit a black and orange Monarch. It hit the windshield so hard I was sure it had experienced instant death as we were going at least 55 mph. Both of the kids sucked in a deep gasp and you could tell they were both stunned. Tina tapped on her Papa's shoulder and asked if he would pull over so she could get the butterfly off of the wind shield wiper. Wayne looked at me and I shook my head yes. Tina got out and went to the front of the van and retrieved the butterfly, got back into the van with tears in her eyes. She handed the butterfly to me gently and said "Mimi... I think it may still be alive". I looked at it and shook my head, telling both of them that it would be unlikely that it would survive a hit like that.As we drove into town I was steadily watching the butterfly in the palm of my hand, holding it where the kids could see it too. This huge beautiful butterfly was standing up on it's legs moving it's anteneas up and down. In wonder we watched as it's big colorful wings started to open close slowly. The children were amazed, speaking softly to it and wishing it to fly again. Coaxing it back to life in front of our eyes! We were about a block from the police station when it actually started flying in the van. I was so shocked I almost cried right there in front of the kids. I told Wayne to let his window down and the butterfly found his way to Wayne's shoulder then took flight up into one of the hugest trees in the town square. As it flew away Hunter looked out the back window watching it and waving he said "Good bye for now Mommy."All of us looking at each other were smiling from our heads to our toes knowing that Hunter had been so right when he told us that our sign would come.I am so grateful for my signs, and for God's lovely and beautiful Butterflies!Love Jacqueline , MayLyn's Momma PLH
