The approaching anniversary
Today is March 19th. Since the 10th of this month, the year anniversary of when Mike fell and broke his leg, I have become more emotional day by day, knowing the one year anniversary of his death is approaching. It is so hard right now to keep my emotions in check.
I appreciate being able to write here as I know all of your understand.

The one year anniversary was very hard for me too. Acutally, the day before the anniversary was actually the worst. Do you have any plans for what you want to do that day? We all observed it differently, so there\'s no set rule except to do what you feel works for you. I think the one year mark gives a lot of us some sense of closure; hope it helps you. laurabp
Laura, you are most loyal to your friends. You never fail to make a comment or send a hug in my direction whenever I write a journal entry. Thank you so much for being there. You always know what to say.
I am dreading the one year anniversary. I have already been very emotional over the past week. I can feel myself turning inward and I don\'t want to be like that. Unfortunately, I have to work on that Saturday, April 10th and worse, my Birthday is April 8th. That is the day we were told Mike only had a day or so to live. It was a horrible way to spend my Birthday. I wonder if I will ever have a Happy Birthday again.
What a heavy period for you to be going through. Every passing day reawakens all the terrible memories and feelings of what you were both going through a year ago. I can\'t imagine if you\'re ever going to have a happy birthday again, either. And you\'re right; I think that you have come to a place where you will find understanding and support.
All the best to you. I too have heard that there are people who feel some closure after one year and perhaps that will bring you some peace and comfort as well.
Hugs, Gail
Ree,
I not even close to the one year mark...but as each month passes and I count them go by to me it still feels like yesterday that he was laying here in a hospital bed beathing his last breaths but an eternity since I have held him and talked to him the way we use too. I only hope that you can pass by the anniversary without to much pain and think of the good times you had together..go back to that beach with the beautiful sunset...hugs
With each milestone, there is anxious anticipation and worry and sadness and remembering. But once the milestones are reached, you can say \"I made it this far, I can make it farther still.\" Whether it\'s one month, 6 months, a year, 2 years, whatever. The one year was bad for me, but my first birthday without him was worse. If you can, plan some down time for yourself. I\'ve gotten used to the idea that I may have to have more flexibility on certain days. Maybe I will be fine; maybe I will be a mess. The one year I took from work, and me and my sons went to the cemetery and said prayers and anything else we felt we needed to say. It was hard, but it helped I think.
You might plan on celebrating an un-birthday halfway through your year instead, or at least until you feel more like celebrating again. Just a thought.
Love and Hugs,
Martha
