Thanksgiving

I miss my Mom.I don't care what your age is....when your mom dies, you will miss her....always. My mother died on October 5, 1984 from ovarian cancer. She had just turned 68. It was a horrible, painful death and I was relieved, at the time, that she passed away. 1984.....you would think that I would have stopped missing her by now, wouldn't you? BUT, as always, Thanksgiving rolls around and it stirs up all those memories of being with her, cooking, and mostly laughing. She had these horrible...and I DO mean horrible brown "stretch pants" that she wore when she was doing heavy duty cooking. I used to just gag when I saw her in them because she usually dressed more, ummm, updated. But, these pants were a staple, just like the turkey roaster pan. UGH. She had a funny, twisted sense of humor, just like me. The thing with having a loving, caring mom, like mine was...is that I didn't have to be the mom. As funny as it sounds,( no matter that I had a child of my own), I was always the kid and she was the adult. She knew what she was doing and we all felt safe with her decisions. For years now, I have been okay and missed her like others miss their deceased parents. This year is different. I think it has been a rough, disturbing and unstable year for all of us. Maybe I just want that safe feeling that I got when I was doing simpler things, like cooking with my mom.....although, being from Texas, I called her Mama, just like she did hers. I hope she knows that I have grown up to be a happy person, like her. She taught me well in that department AND I make the best Southern style cornbread dressing too! I give thanks for all of my memories with her, good and bad.I know she is cooking someplace today.BUT, she isn't wearing those horrible brown stretch pants. I have them. I still miss you, Mama.

Thanks for sharing your story. My grama Nanny was the cook in my family. Holidays are not the same without her as well. THere is not a day that goes by that I do not miss my grandparents. They both passed away in the mid 90\'s, and they were my world.....Happy Thanksgiving to you---:)

So very heartfelt! I\'m sure your Mom is looking down at you, watching over you just like she did when she was with you. It never ends....I truly believe that. You know you could probably really make her laugh by wearing those stretch pants next time you whip something up!!!
