Thankful

We all know that Thanksgiving shouldn't be the only time we count our blessings, yet ~ it's a good reminder for us.
I recall when I was new to this "addiction thing" and was in the middle of all the scary, worrisome crap that over took my every thought and action ~ I somehow knew enough to take a breather and do just that ~ count my blessings.  Along with my wonderful family , friends, home, and community ~ I listed the people who God brought to us to help us get through our trying times.  Some may not consider a detective or policemen to be included in the list but I was overwhelming grateful for them.  They were part of our son's lifeline to get him the help he needed.  We were also very blessed to have had a few drug counselors who were sent from God to help us.  One was my lifeline that I will be forever grateful for.  Jo was dynamic.  Although I knew she was extremely busy ~ she was always available to me and acted as if I was her only client.  One time I had a two hour session with her.  I know it must have been after hours for her.  Ironically, I'm on the board with her for the organization that raises funds for families of adolescents who need treatment.  We cover the funds that insurance doesn't cover.  Anyway ~ and then there is the drug counselor, Jim, who invited us to join a unique parent/family support group.  This was our other lifeline.  I counted the days until we met the next time.  Jo suggested Al Anon and gave me a particular group she thought would work for me.  It was great.
