Tell Me How
Okay for all of you who say to live in the moment... Tell me please.... How is that to get you by when there is always another crisis....always too many things to do...never anything to look forward to (without it getting A flaming monkey wrench thrown into the mix).
How do you continue to live in the now when it sucks SO BAD .If now is all I have, wouldn't it be easier to just give it all up?
Why even bother?

Hugs Kim.
Sorry, hope you feel better.
Hugs my friend. It is hard, I know but you have to try. That is all you can do. There is no magic solution. Take care and do the best you can.
Just hang in there. Take things a step at a time. It's always the darkest just before the dawn. We can't really enjoy the mountain tops till we have gone through the valleys of life. I am living proof of that.
I wouldn't know, I live in the future
I guess that the only way I was able to start living in the moment was to start seeking out something more spiritual. Getting in touch with my soul, so to speak. Accepting that everything around me was out of my control, that I can only build peace for myself. And that my peace can't depend on the environment around me. It comes from within.
I also know that I just flat out got fed up with feeling like shit. I read out of a book called "The Language of Letting Go" daily. You can download it on the pdf drive website. Creating rituals to soothe my mind has really helped.
I am sorry that you are feeling this way in your situation. But know that your soul is completely in your power. No one can break through into that. I believe we all have to heal from the inside out.
Sometimes I feel the same way. It is hard to live in the now when you have concerns and no one to help out. Hugs, I know how you feel!
I learned in my sobriety not to worry about the past and not to be concerned about the future. I live in the moment by doing what is needed next. I don’t worry about Friday on a Thursday night.
Get through today, make a healthy dinner, exercise, get some sleep, and get into work tomorrow ready to handle the moment.
It’s not always easy, but it’s effective. I’m sorry you’re struggling.
So tired of struggling. :(
Sorry Kim.
Thanks. I appreciate the kind words and support.
My understanding of it is, you can't really fix or even attempt to address your issues if you live in the past or present. So although living in the now can often be uncomfortable in times of hardship, it is necessary to try and improve your situation. I think this journal resonates with a lot of people on this site. I heard a quote once, "the best way out is alway through". There is probably a degree of truth in that. Keep fighting, you'll get there.
I think staying present takes practice and a lot redirecting intrusive thoughts. I’m not always successful at it but I try when I’m worried or feeling anxious.
I will say I’m not a person who gets hung up on the past. Even good stuff that happened, I tend to not be terribly nostalgic. And with bad stuff that happened, I just try to see it as just facts and nothing more. That took time to get there. I remember reading a quote once by Mike Ditka, of all people (former coach of the Chicago Bears) about how living in the past is for cowards. And that if you live in the past you die in the past. That really struck me. And changed my view of the past. I also really try to get too far in the future. That just stokes my anxiety. It also makes me tend to day dream about change rather than making actual changes. I get stuck there quite a bit so I feel like it’s better to stay in the now because I’ll just be disappointed in myself for not changing things.
When I think of living in the moment or staying present, I think it is more about your body and mind connection, slowing things down, etc. In that case I think it’s actually helpful when life is challenging at the moment. It’s a way to sort of control your thoughts and not feel overwhelmed. It can make you more deliberate. It can also prevent becoming a victim of the past and a slave to the future. All there really is is now. And so staying present even if things are not great helps you accept the present situation truly and then your intention to change it. But it really does take practice to do that.
to me living 'in the now' is accepting that you live in hell and that you then don't make plans/prepare to change it ?
alternatively my counsellor told me to just accept that I have not made a decision today and to take the pressure off myself. she said by removing the pressure to make the decision it can free up space in your head and then you will make the decision. I don't know which is best so far I have not and I am still on a roller coaster of indecision.
