Talk to Grandpa
I had a conversation on the phone with my son and family over the weekend. My granddaughter who is only 3 yrs old was actually carrying on a conversation with me. Most of which, I asked the questions and she answers. Then out of the blue she asks...Where is Grandpa? can I talk to Grandpa?.... to put Grandpa on the phone. I am thinking..WTF? This is the last thing I would expect her to ask on the phone, since the last she saw him was over a year ago! I answered the best I could and told her I loved her. After talking again with my son, he apologized......that it must of triggered her to remember him by looking at a few pictures of him recently.
I held it together while on the phone,and told him that's ok. But afterwards....the tears came again. He would of loved that, knowing that his granddaughter wanted to talk to him on the phone. Something so simple to do and we did often, but won't ever happen again. He is so missed by everyone.

Mine want to talk about him all the time to hear stories about our past I tell them anything they want and laugh with them over silly stuff he said or did. My grandson remembered when he was in kindergarten he ask grandpa what he was going to be for halloween and my husband said a pile of horse s**t and he told his whole kindergarten class at the fall party including the parents and my daughter quoting him exactly. We heard about that for a long time. After they leave I always have a good cry. I am glad your grand daughter remembers her grandpa!
It is nice to know that she still remembers him and wanted to talk with him. Although she obviously cannot grasp the concept of death, she is keeping him alive in her heart. I think it is wonderful. Hugs,.....Nancy

How sweet...I know how you feel. My grand daughter also just turned 3 and it is amazing how much they can remember. Her papa made a model car for her during one of his hospital stays and it sat in the curio cabinet for a year unmentioned. Suddenly, I catch her with it one day and scold her for getting in the cabinet and she says, \"But my Papa buyed this for me and my Papa used to live here but he lives in Heaven now and I want this because my Papa gave it to me and I miss him.\" Sometimes, it is painful to talk about him with the kids but that\'s how we keep the memories alive.
