Taking time for me
Hello ladies.
I spoke with my RE on yesterday and I was informed that they wanted to do genetic testing on my frozen embryo. They said that since they havent found anything wrong with my uterus then maybe there is an emryo problem. Has anyone had to have this done. If so what was the outcome. I am nervous as i am running out of chances I beleive I only have two more tries for fresh cycles through my insurance and I cannot afford to pay out of pocket and I dont want to miss out on becoming a mother. I am trying to stay positive. If they test my embryo that I have frozn does tha mean that I will have to start another fresh cycle in order to get new embyro. i am so confused. I have a follow up appointment on next thursday. I cant start another cycle until august as this is my RE's down time where they dont do any IVF. i am fine with this as this gives me time to get myself together and a break fromall the medication but i am just worried that I will never be a mom.

I did GSN ( the same as genetic diagnosis ), but on my fresh embryos.
They take a cell, send to the lab and after couple of days they know the result.
If all of them are \"bad\", they will not do the transfer, unless you still want to.
It\'s just an idea of the quality of the embryos, out of 16 eggs, 9 fertilized with icsi and I used only 3 (they looked good enough), 2 were totally missing dna, other were a lot of missing cromosome (if you look into my journals there is the whole report, look around dec 17 2010).
It worked for me, I got preg with triplets, while the 4 times before with a different RE never did the GSN. always got preg and always lost it .
My RE kept on saying \"bad eggs\", but Im also 43 in sept, so it\'s a very different situation from yours.
I also do not believe that out of a total of 3 fresh IVF, 66 eggs retrieved, only the last 3 were good ones.
So in my case something else was going on.
No idea if it helps, but I though that \"bad eggs\" were more in my age category than yours.

I believe if they use a frozen embryo they can\'t use that for a FET was that the only one they had frozen? If so its probably best to do another fresh cycle anyway. Both of my IVF cycles were fresh, so not sure about the frozen, except they said there was a good chance that while thawing they may not make it. I got three free tries thru my insurance and used 2. Unfortunately I don\'t have that insurance anymore, or I would so try again! Good luck, and keep us posted!
I did genetic testing on my embryos -- I did it with all 3 cycles. First 2 cycles they were all bad, last cycle I got one perfect embryo that I\'m pregnant with now. Of course, I have a known chromosomal problem that made me very likely to have genetic problems with my embryos. For someone your age, who doesn\'t have a chromosomal problem, it\'s less likely.
I\'m not sure there\'s much point in testing just your frozen embryo. It\'s expensive ($3000-$5000) and not usually covered by insurance. And it\'s the same cost whether they test one embryo or 15 embryos. So it would probably make more sense to test all the embryos off your next fresh cycle. And you can decide whether or not you want to do a FET on your remaining embryo first or not.
Now if there is genetic problems with your embryos, there\'s nothing they can do to fix it. You just have to keep trying and testing until you get a good one. But if you get a lot of eggs/embryos on a cycle, it can be a good way to ensure that they pick a good one.

I had genetic testing done on my embryos after my retrieval. Out of 16 embies, only 5 were \"healthy\" for transfer, so it definitely made sense for us to have the testing done. I don\'t know how genetic testing would affect a frozen embryo, but for some reason I recall that it can be done (I could definitely be wrong tho). Has either you or your boyfriend had genetic testing done? You are in my thoughts and prayers. Take care of yourself and I\'ll pray that your dreams of becoming a mom will soon come true.
