Taking Chances
DDD and it's myriad of other issues can become even more difficult without friendships of meaning. We become isolated and and then the loneliness can set in. I met someone this week with the same condition and we discussed the challenges, even laughed it off. However it made me think about relationships with DDD. Do we dare assume we can meet new people and not be intimidated by their abilities and fervor? I would like to think so.

My take on this is that you are referring to those who don\'t have the disc disease. With or without I think yes you can.
I find it easier when I am away from home and my comfort zone. I love people and it is easy for me to meet and make friends when I am not in pain. At home I become fearful of nourishing relationships because my pain gets in the way of activities. I am a better pen pal and talk on the phone than a do lunch kind of person.
Possibly there is a balance in having friends without a painful illness. These friends can bring positive into your life and connect you to your life before the pain. It is a balancing act to find those friends who understand and accept a few limitations but I believe they are out there.
Even at my age and keeping my mind focused on the positive I find there are moments of grief for my old life. I count my blessings but I still can\'t help but look back at what I am missing once in awhile. Then comes the stages of loss.
Grief, denial, anger, bargaining, so on so forth. I recognize it and engage in a new project and give deep thought to what positive this has brought to my life.
Grace abounds. Make some new friends.
