taken for a fool - again and again

I'll admit......it's bothering me a bit but I know I have to let it all go.  Got the call from school today......T had bad sore throat......  He complained about it last night and it did sound like he had a marble down his throat when he talked but I suggested he stick it out for an hr & a half  so anyway.....   He told me he believed he had strep, had to rest at home, and asked me to make an appointment with the doctor.  I was on the phone for about 30 minutes or so but managed to get one for him.  So....I take him in and no strep.  He was told it is viral and was given some things he can take to help him feel more comfortable.  Well....it was a gorgeous day out but I told him when I received the call that he had to promise to stay home if I permit him to leave, even if he's feeling "better".  Well, the rascal left the house when I was in the backyard.  Yes, and strangely enough......he was sick on a Wednesday - which gets him out of staying after school.  He's such a baby.  I know he's delayed in the maturity department BIG TIME due to his ADD, but particularly because of his drug use.  Arrested Development.  I see glimmers of maturity every so often and then expect it to stay.

Boy does this bring back memories! I got so tired of picking up my daughter from school that I said no more, only if she was bleeding from the head. And, ya know what? She started having severe nose bleeds that caused the school to call an ambulance a couple of times!!! ER visits were the norm! Little did I know, the nosebleeds were from snorting cocaine. She also was a cutter, and would do something stupid like accidentally rip open some part of her arm or fingers. It was soooooo bad! But, as a mom you do these things for them! I was embarrassed most of the time. Had gone way beyond feeling sorry for her, and it was still her way of trying to tell me she needed more help than we were able to give her. She even cut herself while in residential treatment and it took months of intensive therapy there to get her over that. He\'s going to push every button you\'ve got so be strong! Until he hits bottom it will continue. Maybe by then, you will get him help he needs. We cannot make them do it until the bottom has hit. My heart goes out to you!! Good luck this weekend!

I think you already know that I\'m a Nurse at a High School, and we are having major problems keeping the kids here. Some are acting sick, but many are just trying to leave. My point is, even non addicted / non recovering kids are behaving this way. Hang in there. : ) The weather is perfect here as well.

Arrested Development is right. I am still hoping to hear from someone who\'s child has gone through this, and then something happened to make them start maturing. But I keep seeing the same lame excuses and pathetic behavior. My son has never asked to be picked up from school, though. He just comes home and sleeps for 12+ hours. Good luck.

Just a gentle reminder that ADD is not necessarily the root of his immaturity ... many kids get it together and function well in spite of the diagnosis..... Hang in there and enjoy your functions this weekend!!!! Take Care!!!!
