The flights go on sale exactly two months before the date of departure and sell out very quickly. If you can get a seat, it’s really worth it, and it’s an exhilarating ride! The dates of these rituals change every year and are different in every village, so you can’t expect to be able to show up on Orchid Island and catch one of these events.

The rooms also come with a personal hot spring tub, which I thoroughly enjoyed during our last night in Taitung as we had a really full day. And only the rooms on the 6th floor have their own hot spring tubs.
The owner of our guesthouse even gave us a free tour to his parents’ underground house. Ferries arrive at Kaiyuan Harbor, which is where what used to be the island’s only 7-Eleven is also located. Kaiyuan Harbour is just north of Yeyou village, where the coast is dominated by Mantou Rock . The first is Fugang Harbor (富岡漁港), where ferries also go to Green Island. It’s a 15-minute drive from the Taitung train station or 25 minutes from the Taitung Airport.

This rocky, tree-lined canyon has a river at the bottom, while its forests shelter different species of animals. The place is also famous for its marbles while its picturesque scenery makes it an excellent hiking site. Should you want to explore its attractions you can check out Shakadang Trail, Yanzikou Trail, and Lushui Trail.
Green Island and Orchid Island are famous islands with rich natural landscapes, and are also world-class diving and holiday destinations. If you like nature, want to discover the aboriginal culture, and want to escape Taiwan’s huge cities. From Taipei you can take a train to reach Taitung, the fastest one will take you there in 3.5 hours, ticket prices range from $20 to $30 USD.
Although it’s clearly visible from the highway, it’s surprisingly difficult to get down to it. Bring all the cash you need, and don’t come in winter, when almost everything closes. If you want to visit the beach, continue further north to Douli Beach (都歷沙灘), where you can drive right to the beach or learn how to surf at Torik Ocean Surf (都歷海洋教室).

The fifth and last park on my list, Peinandazhen Riverside Park is a small park with not much to offer apart from a nice view over the surrounding mountains.
