Siwei Night Market – more for foodies than souvenir shoppers, this market is near Taitung Night Market and offers an overwhelming amount of Taiwanese cuisine and street food. Taitung's night life has been described as subdued, that may be true however there are of course some bars. What Taitung does have however, is a rather large number of cafes. Since Taitung County actually grows coffee beans it is also possible to find truly local coffee at several establishments. Conveniently located just a few blocks from the beach and down town.
Thailand is a great country to find some unique silver jewelry at a cheap price. That said, you will not find many big international hotel brands here. On the bright side, you will get to experience local hospitality from independent hotels and homestay (called “minsu”).

With an area of nearly 300 hectares, it has an ice skating rink, water sports area, bike path and bird watching place.
Note that the Railway Village is quite a ways from the Taitung Train Station, so it’s best to get there by taxi or scooter, or on the Taiwan Tourism shuttle. If have more time in Taitung city, the city’s hippest attraction is Railway Art Village (鐵道藝術村, often abbreviated to 鐵化村 or Tiehua Village / tiehua cun). This is Taitung’s answer to Huashan Creative Park in Taipei, Cultural Heritage Park in Taichung, and Pier 2 Arts Center in Kaohsiung.

Surfing is to be had at the rather secluded beaches from here on north if you have your own board. Best to just walk down the fruit night market , then continue on Zhonghua Road Section 1 until Jhongjheng Road, and finally northwest from there. This uniquely Taiwanese blend is still easily discernible in part because a lot of the recent advances in Taiwan's economy have passed Taitung by. This has prevented Taitung from devouring itself the way more successful cities have.
