Tackling Goals
Yesterday I was listening to a podcast. The person being interviewed as talking about how she set a specific goal for herself, which basically went like this:* What did she want to accomplish that year?* What did she have to do each month to accomplish that goal?* Evaluate herself each month to see if she was on task.* By the end of the year, she often found herself ahead of schedule, which allowed her time to "wrap things up."At no point did she feel the weight of the "big goal" hanging over her.In other words, break the larger goal into smaller ones.Of course, I know that if you break up a large task into smaller ones, it doesn't seem so large. I have to say, though, there are some things I'd like to accomplish that I seem to get brain freeze just starting to think about how I'd like to break it down. Healthy eating, for example. I know I have to change my shopping/planning/cooking habits. And just the idea of planning out a menu for a week?...<<shudder>>. I've done that before & didn't like it. So that brings me back to the question of: do I really want to set this goal (whether it be healthy eating or whatever)? Do I want to put the work into it? I think that's the real question.Anyway, that's just my reflection on goal-setting. Definitely some things to keep in mind when doing so.

WHY DO YOU WORRY**GOALS, WE CANNOT TAKE IT FOR GRANTED, REMEMBER THE \'\'SCRIPTURES\'\' THE BUILDING OF THE BIG BARN AND THEN HE DIED, FOLLOW THE \'\'LORD\'\', PRAY ,EAT WELL, AND CHERISH EACH MOMENT, BLESSINGS LUCY***
I think it\'s all a matter of where the goal comes from.
The man who built the many barns did so for selfish purposes; his plans were based on his own greed. Joseph, too, set a long-term goal to store up much food, but he did it to combat the region\'s impending famine. And he did so with the wisdom of God.
So I wouldn\'t necessarily say setting a goal is bad; but you are right in that we have to go to God with our plans. Proverbs 16:3 says, \"Commit to the Lord whatever you do, and he will establish your plans.\" And Colossians 3:23 (one of my favorites): \"Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters.\"
