"Synchrodestiny!"
God, I LOVE that word! I've been listening to Deepak Chopra's meditation every day (www.chopracentermeditation.com), and the other day, he mentioned this word... which he says means that coincidence combines with destiny to open doorways. I am SO GLAD I've been listening to him every day! BECAUSE....
Last weekend, my son said to my daughter-in-law in my living room that he hasn't had much contact with my mother because the last time he went to see her (he was 14), she turned her back on him, went into the kitchen, and started doing dishes. He resents that a bit... she hadn't seen him for 7 years prior and this is how she reacted. I had no idea! AND I think it's my fault! She insisted I come in to see her as well (I had planned to just wait in the car)... when I did, she wanted to hug me as if our falling out had never happened and I wasn't ready. In fact, I said that... and I turned around and walked out the door. Yeah I know, that was really crappy on my part, but I REALLY wasn't ready and nothing good would have come out of our meeting except anger. Thirteen years passed since that incident and they have had almost no contact that entire time. I think it consisted of just 2 letters to each other and then even that stopped. I hadn't had contact either... So as I was letting my sisters know we were coming, my son mentioned that he didn't care if we saw her...
So I signed off here yesterday, pulled out the phone number for the hotel we're going to stay at, dialed to make the reservations AND....
MY MOTHER ANSWERED THE PHONE!
LOL. MAN, life can have some ironies. Right away, I thought about hanging up. The last time I saw her (last Fall), she pretended I didn't exist even as my sisters and I tried to involve her in the conversation.
But I didn't hang up... in fact, as I told her what dates I need the reservations for, I realized it was time to talk... well, in the sense that I would crack open a door....
So as she repeated the dates back to me, thinking that it was just a stranger, I said... "Mom? This is your daughter, Donna". "Huh?" she said... and so I said "Mason (my son) and I are coming back December 7th and 8th because David's (my X) dad is very ill and Mason really wants a chance to see him"....
And ALL OF A SUDDEN, everything CHANGED! It was like we never had our falling out, but in a GOOD way! She kindly told me that she just saw my X father-in-law the other day and he REALLY wasn't looking well.... then she set up the reservations in her name, with employee discounts, and saved it on her credit card. WOW! And THEN, she asked if she could meet with all of us for DINNER!
OMG, I couldn't believe it... Mom wants to be seen with me in public?!!! That's HUGE! - she's the one I almost ended up in a fist fight with at my sister's wedding! DOUBLE WOW!
AND THEN... yesterday, I was at work preparing to close the office for lunch, and I said out loud (I tend to speak to myself when I'm bored) that I needed to call my son about bringing something over for Thanksgiving... and I look up to see a vehicle pulling in... and it's MY SON!
So I told him about my conversation with my mother... and this HUGE GRIN comes over his face.... and he says YES, he would LOVE having dinner with Grandma!
TRIPLE WOW!!! And you know, if I hadn't learned to give up my anger toward the Corp. Manager, I would have been too tense? withdrawn? angry? to open this door with my mother...
That's not to say that it's easy... I woke up with the dogs wanting out at 3am this morning, and couldn't go back to sleep. I finally gave up at 5 because I couldn't quit thinking about the situation with the manager.... MAN, what a waste of time and energy (and sleep) holding onto anger is.... 15+ years with my mother... but then again, it took me all of those 15+ years to figure it out...
My friends are in agreement... it was time for my X to leave my life so doorways could open for my son and my mother. I think I'm going to have an AMAZING Christmas... LATER!

This is wonderful news and how inspiring for everyone to read. I am so happy for all of you. This tells me I\'m right in some decisions I am making in my life.
We all have those moments in our lives where if we had done this we wouldn\'t have that. This is one of those times for you. I hope you and your mom continue to see and talk to each other. You will have many doors open for you in the future. Yes, you are going to have an amazing Christmas this year because you are willing to give to be able to receive.
Donna (if that\'s your name :) I LOVE that word and what it represents. Have been thinking lately about getting into some meditation, and perhaps I will check out D.C. for that. You certainly did have two incredible synchrodestiny moments and they were both wonderful....made you smile and that is great! Keep cheery and thanks for sharing this story! Happy Thanksgiving - feed that big lion heart of yours :)
just checked out the link but it is too late to join the 21 day meditation cycle :( maybe next time!
