Sweetness

“Life will break you. Nobody can protect you from that, and living alone won't either, for solitude will also break you with its yearning. You have to love. You have to feel. It is the reason you are here on earth. You are here to risk your heart. You are here to be swallowed up. And when it happens that you are broken, or betrayed, or left, or hurt, or death brushes near, let yourself sit by an apple tree and listen to the apples falling all around you in heaps, wasting their sweetness. Tell yourself you tasted as many as you could.”
- Louise Erdrich
Isn't that amazing? We are all here and we all get hurt. The only thing to do is to share the love and embrace the sweetness of each day.
The new sweetness in our lives is my grandbaby - Albert who was born on 12/26/14. I've never had luck inserting a photo into the journal - they get warped and stretched - but I'll put a few in my album. I'm doing really well now... working at home. And taking care of Albert two mornings a week... what a fun job. Byron is going back for a master's degree to be a NP. My parents are well Drew is well... we give thanks for the good life.
We all miss Andy so much... and it looks like there are breakthroughs coming in brain cancer treatment. I think it is normal for me to have mixed or at least complicated feelings about that. I don't want any other child or beloved person of any age to die, but it makes me extra sad that so many died JUST BEFORE a cure. Ouch.
Love and peace always,Sarah

Lovely to read your journal again Sarah. I\'m so slow at writing one myself but I will try soon. I can see how amazing and transformational it must feel to have a precious grandchild born to you - what a huge love to feel and so nourishing after the heartbreak of losing your beautiful & amazing Andy.

I also understand the feelings about cancer breakthroughs. I\'ve felt like that too, & often Sarah. Of course we do want cures for every single one, and we want them too for our lost lovely ones.

I\'m so happy to read your journal Sarah. I was just wondering when Albert\'s Birthday is - just this morning actually. Wow 3 months already XXX :)

Congratulations on this bundle of JOY that has graced your family and I\'m not sure where I would be today had I not had my Haven. Today she turns seven and she got me through the darkest of days by helping me to remember that the circle of life continues and lives on.

Grateful you can care for Albert and work from home too. Just perfect!

I felt much the same about the drug that can now be used for overdoses that was not readily available seven years ago. Thankful for those who can benefit and wish so that my son had been one of them. I understand what you are describing Sarah. Deepest of sighs...

Always enjoy your journals and hearing how life is unfolding for you.

Hand in hand and Heart to heart,
XO Joanie

Oh, Sarah - I feel exactly the same way as you. To think that in the infinity that is time, that our boys would have lost their dear lives with us just minutes before The Cure,.......well, it breaks my heart all over again. I\'ve missed you. Patti

Sarah, I am so happy for you and your family! What a blessing Albert is!
The mixed emotions are understandable. I experience them too when I hear someone survived what my son did not. Although I would not wish this pain on any family, I do get envious when I realize my child did not survive what others do. I hate the unfairness of it all! Hugs, Linda
