Surviving this

I just read that Lena Horne lost her father, son, and husband all within a year.  She passed yesterday at 92, a truly remarkable woman who suffered more pain than I ever thought.
Reading about her reminded me of something I read in college.  It was about senior citizens.  The book called them survivors.  They've survived death of loved ones, illness, and countless dissapointments and tragedies.
I'm determined to be a survivor.  I've lost my husband but I'm not done yet.  If Lena Horne can survive the death of three loved one and living life in a world that did not like African Americans, then I certainlly can survive what's happened to me.  And I will.
