Surveillance tape helps nab purse thief
Washington Township crimelog -- Police on May 19 charged a Somerdale man with driving while intoxicated after an officer reported he swerved between lanes on Route 42. The driver then crossed lane markings as he swerved traveling northbound. After police pulled him over, the driver said he'd had three Yuengling beers and a shot of on acid at an area bar. The Somerdale man failed a field sobriety test and was arrested. A breath test revealed a blood alcohol content of .10. The accused was processed and released to a friend. -- A Wendee Way resident on May 16 reported someone had stolen an iPod connector and some change from his daughter's unlocked vehicle. The daughter told police she parked the car in front of the house the previous night. When Newport 100S cigarette she approached the car in the morning, she said she noticed some items had been taken from the glove box and placed on the front seat. She then realized she'd forgotten to lock the car. -- A 35-year-old Pennsauken woman is accused of slipping items at a local Walmart into her purse on May 16 and trying to walk out of the store. She was detained by Walmart loss prevention, said police who then arrested her. The woman also had an active warrant out of Gloucester City. -- A Brandywine Way resident on May 16 reported someone had stolen her vehicle registration and insurance cards, along with about $6 in loose change, from her vehicle overnight. The victim told police she'd approached her truck that morning to find that the glove box was open and the items were missing. Police said there were no signs of forced entry. -- Someone on May 13 broke a window in a car parked at the Virtua Health and Wellness complex on Hurffville-Cross Keys Road and stole a lunch Online Cigarettes bag cooler from the front passenger side seat. The thief had broken the front passenger side window with an unknown object and reached into the car. An officer arrived and reported seeing the three run into the woods behind the empty house. Police searched but didn't find them. The owner of the home told police he'd board it up. -- A township man on May 10 reported his son had stolen his iPad 2 and sold it at an area store for $150. Police checked with store manager, who they said confirmed the accused had sold the iPad there. The father Newport 100S had to buy the iPad back from the store at the sale price, police said. He had not filed a complaint as of that day. -- A Menkar Avenue man on May 6 told police someone had entered his unlocked garage that evening and stolen a carton of cigarettes from his freezer. On April 30, the man said he noticed a carton of cigarettes and a bottle of liquor were missing from the garage. The alleged victim said about $110 worth of cigarettes and liquor have been stolen from his home.
