Surprising Dr's Appt

My appt today sure was nowhere near what I prepared for.  It came totally out of left field but oh man what a relief.
Several wks back early in the a.m. I had a low blood sugar episode & I took my Dex treatment stuff but after a short time I just didn't feel like I was coming together & got anxious.  I called my dr's clinic to see if there was a dr on call for issues & they ended up connecting me to my diabetes dr.  So he advised what he wanted me to do & said he'd call back mid day.  I was not scheduled to see him till Jan but he felt he'd better up the appt.  He said when I go in I was to see a woman  by the name of Jillian 1st.  OK whatever I guess.  This Jillian is a diabetes educator/diet educator.  So easy to talk with too.  My dr did join us at one point & the recommendation was put to me that I would no longer take the set prescribed dose prior to each meal but would go on a floating dose.  Here's the hard part - I have to take 2 units of insulin for every 15 gr of carbs at each meal & still take my usual bed time insulin.  Darn it this is so difficult.  It means I just can't spontaneously eat, I have to really plan a meal, count the carbs & plan the insulin dose accordingly.  Plus if my pre meal blood sugar test is high I have to factor in an extra unit of insulin for e very count of 3 above 8.0.  YIKES I was feeling like I need to be a mathematician here.  I was so so frusrated.  But on I went.
I had my follow up appt today & did not like my blood sugar numbers I was taking in, they've all been running fairly high & I'm not used to that.  When he came in the room I told him this & then proceeded to tell him how confusing the whole carb counting & insulin dosing was.  He got so excited & exclaimed YOU PASSED THE TEST.  I stared & said HUH!  He said that what I just said told him that I'm at least trying & that if someone could come see him & not have this to say it would mean they're not even trying.  He did agree my numbers are somewhat high but the main thing is they were stable & not my usual way way up and way way down.  So I have to stay on this program & work on lowering my numbers to closer to normal.  Oh yea, he's now wondering if my dizzy spells were tied in with my brains reaction to all the erratic blood sugar levels.  Either way they'be pretty much stopped for a while now.
WHEW!!!!!  So this is a huge monkey off my back.  Now I just have to get thru the family dinner on Sat.  I don't know why I just would rather not have to be there.  I just somehow don't have the mental energy but what will be will be.  I'm just going to be true to me & thats that.
Anywho thats abt it for today.  We're heading in to a milder weather pattern so thats a nice gift fr mother nature.  Hubby's doing fairly well, I think the weather now will help him too.
So I'll sign off for now.  I so appreciate & love the support fr all my friends.

I am excited for you and praying you will work it out. Your such and obedient and do exactly what the doctor tells you to do and that is the key to it all. So many people don\'t do what the doctor tells them then they wonder why there not getting better. I am happy your dizziness went away. About Saturday, just go be yourself, have fun and thank God for being able to go out and especially with family who are so precious. What I wouldn\'t give to be able to go out to a dinner with my family .My family is gone and my son doesn\'t come around much. All in all I am happy you found out what is going on and breathe easier now. So glad Mel is doing better . All m y love, always xxoo

Hmmm. Well it sounds like it is a big pain in the behind, but tha tyou are making progress. Do you think the planning and counting will become 2nd nature at some point and be easier? I hope so. I hope the weather stays mild, but I won\'t hold my breath, haha. I hope your dinner went OK. It is so hard to have self control through the holidays, I find. I pray that you can keep your numbers level AND enjoy yourself too. Love you so much and Merry Christmas my friend!
