Surgery scheduled
Tim's surgery on his jaw has finally been scheduled for Mon. May 9. He broke his jaw On Sat. Apr. 23.
He is in a lot of pain and not "eating" well - only getting a fraction of the calories he needs. He can't chew. After he gets his jaw wired, he will be "eating" through a special straw for at least 3 weeks. He's going to be skin and bone before this is all over If he doesn't start consuming more. He is 6'2" and did weigh 185 lbs. he can't afford to lose much weight. I don't know what to do with him. The pain should subside after the surgery, so, hopefully he will feel like consuming more liquid nutrition. He has to get past the frustration and do what he has to do!

Wow, that sounds terrible about him losing weight. He\'s getting an idea of what it\'s like to be disabled. I hope it will help him to have more patience and understanding. He continues to be in my prayers. Heather.
I\'ll be praying for his upcoming surgery. Hopefully once he\'s feeling a little better he can add on extra calories to make up for what he is losing now. Hang in there, Nancy!
Hopefully when he gets the surgery done, pain will subside and he will be more able to drink his food. Hopefully the nurses and dr\'s will help you with that. Keeping you in thought/prayer.

It\'s past the surgery date now as I arrive at this journal. Sorry...didn\'t mean to miss it! I\'m sure that when the pain of the surgery is over, and he is feeling that it\'s \"safe\" to chew, he will eat. When we\'re in pain, we are not hungry, right? I got down to 112 pounds from 125 from the time I got CFS to the present. I\'ve managed to get a hold of myself and a good dietician and balanced out at 118. I\'m good there. But because I am sick and have pain, I\'m not very interested in eating. I\'m SURE Tim will get hungry again. He\'s a tall, slim guy like my husband was, so the weight loss is scary. It\'s ok though, Nancy. It\'s nutrition that matters. If that becomes an issue they\'ll tube feed him. Ensure will do the trick. It works!! Just be patient. I know this is hard on both of you.
