Supporting a _goal_

This (independence) goal sounds sensible to me.
"Going slow" allows for feedback; waving and starting [in an analogy] toward someone who is down the hall a ways *slowly* gives 'em time to encourage you or on the other hand to suggest stopping at a polite distance.
Wherein a faster approach does not give you time to measure those reaction/feedbacks. ..goodluck :)

Church congregations are not all the same.
I know one or two who tend to the hypocrical. I\'ve known the opposite. A church an hour south of me sent missionaries to Iraq when a war started there. In their way of thinking, discipleship can mean being a human shield.
Ie, they camped next to a large water reservoir in hopes of a getting in its being bombed.
Maybe that kind of thing is infrequent. But I once went to the annual SOAW gathering, seeing many who are hard core. Not all churches are the same.
