Sucked in...
I really had every intent of going to bed at midnight, but then I started reading posts and got "sucked in".
There were a few responses I left behind after writing them. I decided it wasn't worth posting. One can scream and holler and stamp feet and point to facts and figures and offer up as much "proof" of their belief/opinion as they want - that won't make someone else jump on board, particularly if they are JUST as tenacious about their own beliefs.
My younger son actually brought this sort of thing up the other day when talking about right vs. wrong. The whole discussion of "are gay people bad" has come up again (BSA's review of their current membership policies has been big news in our household) and it was interesting how divided my son's friends are. He's 16. I remember having similar discussions and feeling as disgusted with my friends as he has been with his at exactly the same age. Heck, I have the same discussions with adults, now.
People can be unwavering. Isn't that what we also LOVE about them? That they hold true to their beliefs? Yeah, except when their beliefs do not mirror our own. Then we reject their thoughts and beliefs outright.
Kiddo said it best, "Why can't people realize that what's right for them may not be right for someone else? Why can't they just let other people live their life and be true to their own selves instead of worrying about how to get everyone to think and believe the same?"
So imma take two giant steps back and let people live their lives and do what works best for them. I don't have THEIR answers. Heck, I struggle to find my own.
