They help you as the all-loving, caring individual, not the insecure, disadvantaged one that you actually are. Hence - you reach your purpose! as you try serious personal relationship, the "real you" appears, happens, areas, and your spouse begins to see the real you.

Your spouse may then experience robbed; disappointed; amazed; disbelieving: have you been anyone he or she has begun seeing? And after some time, as your spouse begins to understand that you are a strolling mask, he or she could easily get furious (at equally you and him/herself for making him/herself be robbed!), and with all probability will stop the relationship.
