Stupid Question
So I am annoyed over something stupid. Not unusual for me. I seem to have no control over the things that just so irritate me.
So we have a neighbor who is odd. He just seems kind of off like there is something wrong with him, mild retardation, a head injury, stroke...something. Found out he has a drug and alcohol problem. Lost his drivers license for a year for DUI then went to jail for possession for 90 days.
He does not seem to have a job any more and is just home all the time or at least when he isn't going somewhere. He makes short trips out multiple times a day. You can't come home without him pulling into or out of his garage. My 18 year old commented it doesn't matter if he was going to school at 10am, coming home at 11:30, or 1:30 or going to work at 3:30 and coming home any time between 6 and 9pm the guy was always either following his car onto our street or pulling out of his driveway. I started watching and yes he comes and goes a lot. But they are all short trips. He is never gone more than an hour and usually under half an hour.
I have a picture window that faces the mountains. It is my favorite room in the house and I am in it a lot. My chair faces it so I can look out at the mountains any time I want and his house is right across the street centered in my view so I see his garage all the time. The other morning I was typing on here and I timed his trip 7 minutes. We have a gas station you can get to in that time and nothing else near by. Where does he go?
My daughter in law grew up with a step father who was a drug dealer. She was over for Halloween and we stood outside to give candy to trick or treators. Watched him come and go twice in a two hour period. She said oh he is a drug dealer. She said our neighborhood is too nice to have clients come to him so he is probably making drops. That is why it is 15-30 minutes he is gone and then back with no bags from stores. I was shocked, but well it does make sense.
So wondered if there was any signs or signals I should watch for. Went online to advice sites and it is all if they have people coming and going, not they are. Said to keep records of dates and time, how long people stayed, what they looked like etc. But not my situation. Talked about how the yard would be uncared for and the drapes always shut with fans blowing. Hmmm can see his blinds always flapping in some breeze, but never thought about it.
So found a cop site where you could ask a question. Registered and read t heir lecture on how you had to be respectful of the cops and polite and stuff. And asked if it might be poissilbe that he was dealing drugs from his house, if I should keep records or watch for anything and report it. Got three replies. One not worded badly, but the other two just laughing at me. Told me to worry more about my daughter in law, accused me of being a stalker neighbor. Said I should leave him alone and basically that I was crazy.
I am so annoyed. I was nice and respectful. Debating if I should post back or not. stupid to be upset, but thought it was a legitamite question. I do think his behavior is odd. Have for the last 5 years. I tend to be a bit naïve and that he might be involved in criminal activity did not occur to me even though I knew he had been to prison. Did not appreciate being made fun of just for asking.

You get that kind of response when they are already looking into the matter. I had a drug dealer beside me growing in his house. When we mentioned it to our best man he said they know about, not our worry. The cops know what is going on, they are just looking for the right time or the right person. Don\'t say anything more or the police will start thinking you are involved in more or could ruin their case
I have seen cops at his door in the last year. Well if he is I sure hope they catch him. Thanks.
my brother in law\'s brother works for the ATF besides having our best man be a police officer in our area. those were the responses we were given when we questioned the cars outside our house and the blackened windows and other stories.
I get irritated at neighbors but mostly when it affects me or my way of life. Such as a neighbor that had 5 barking dogs (3 is the limit for the city) and another neighbor that kept his yard in such a mess that we and another neighbor were playing tag team to report him to code enforcement. I also have a direct view of that mess when I am trying to enjoy my back yard.
So I personally would look at your neighbor as definitely an irritant but if he is not directly affecting your way of life I would let it go. If he is into dealing, he will get stupid and get caught some day. You would need a lot of time invested and proof to go to the cops with your suspicions. They deal with facts only. Getting so involved can cause so much stress in your life. Just my opinion :)
