Stuck At Home

Friday, July 10, 2009 - 1:40 PM Well, this has been some week. It has been a mixture of good and bad things. If nothing else, it does break up the monotony.   Monday morning, I went to the mental health clinic and saw Dale, my therapist. The primary discussion centered on the problems I have been having with my CNA's. Dale said that if none of this turmoil ceases, then he thinks it would be a good idea for us to have a joint counseling session with Dr. Martin, my psychologist, and Mickey, who is the director of nursing for my home healthcare agency.   Dale said he felt that the way in which one of the CNA's has been talking to me borders on abuse, and he thinks it is acting as a trigger, which reminds me of the way I was treated by my mother when I was growing up. He feels that I am somewhat afraid to talk with my CNA for fear of some kind of retaliation by her.   When I saw Dr. Martin on Wednesday afternoon, I repeated most of this to her. She seemed to be in complete agreement with what Dale had told me. I also talked with her about my brother having said that he was ashamed to be seen with me in public. I told her that I would like to have one more counseling session with him to find out exactly what I had done to make him feel that way. Dr. Martin quickly said that I was not responsible for how he had felt. She did agree with me that we needed to have another session in order to try and work on this once again.   Yesterday I went to have lunch with my niece Kathy. We ate at one of the pizza places in a nearby mall, but since pizza does not really agree with my stomach, I was less than happy with the place in which we chose to eat.   Other than the food, I believe that Kathy really wanted a chance to talk with me alone. She wanted to know how I was finally able to stop using drugs, and I said that I thought it had to do primarily with the fact that I did a lot of praying to God. She does not seem to think that I am doing all that is possible to make my life better. We discussed a couple of things I had been interested in doing prior to the beginning of summer, but which I had not been able to take part in because of one thing or another. Kathy has always been interested in my improving my quality of life, and she continues trying to help me come up with new ideas to do just that. We decided to get together for another luncheon in a week or two, after she gets back from a short vacation.   Today I am stuck -- quite literally -- at home. My apartment door opens automatically when I press a button, but today it would not budge, so I am stuck inside with no way to open the door on my own. I tried calling my case manager this morning, but as my luck would have it, she is out of town on vacation. I did manage to speak with her supervisor, who remembered me, and he has arranged for someone to fix my door this afternoon. If the technician does not come by four o'clock, I am going to call the supervisor again before most businesses close for the weekend. I do not want to be stuck here until Monday.

FABULOUS IDEA! Go for it.

UNACCEPTABLE. Lemme at \'er.

Geez Jim....... You and doors. Oy. Not your fault, just that you\'ve had so many \'door\' stories since I\'ve known you.

You should put your journalist hat back on and write freelance stories about doors.

It\'s nice that you have a niece who cares enough to not let you be isolated. Does she do long distance? LOL!

I love the idea of freelance stories about doors. Or just about the challenges you face that people like me don\'t. I will always remember your journal about crossing the highway when you were dropped off at the wrong place. Your gift is in story telling, I think. If you want, I could help in some way. I could read them aloud and create podcasts of the stories so that they get even more exposure.

I really like Dale. Have I said that before? Of course it would be a trigger to the past. We have so many of those to cope with. That is the biggest tragedy of child abuse. It sticks with us. I\'m glad I have you in my life to connect with and share this commonality. I\'d be lost if I didn\'t have DS and the friends on here to help me figure out why I sink so low when things happen.

Good God !! Call all of em til they get the dang door opened.
Unreal. This is so serious that someone should be sent over immediately.

It is good that you have Kathy in your life.
She reminds me of soft summer breezes: Very refreshing and replenishing for you.

I am glad all your caregivers are in agreement.
It is only my opinion, but I think dealing with the abusive aid is just as important as the situation with the door. Actually, I think it is vitally important.

I am telling you, take your brother to lunch and invite Weebs and myself.
We will adjust his appetizer. No pizza will be served on the premises.
This remark by your brother is one that does need to be explored.
Those type of sentiments have a tendency to become branded on the psyche.
I would not hold my breath and wait for him to openly and completely own any aspect of that remark. I am assuming he will perpetuate the idea of him never saying such.

Freelance stories ?? Weebs may have something there.
Well, the girl always does.

Could you consider watching a very funny movie.
Sometimes laughing out loud...well it scares the dog...but it does have a tendency to lighten my mood and outlook. Just a thought.

Hey, GoodGod has a good idea. Funny movie. Or simply funny vids on youtube. I like the pic you uploaded of the girl getting struck by lightning. HA. That made me smile. When I feel super sad and don\'t want to I go watch Parry Gripp videos on youtube. I don\'t know why but they always cheer me up enough to get to the next few moments.

There are a lot of good thoughts and suggestions here. The door was fixed the same day I posted my entry. It was just a broken wire that took a long time to locate.

I saw an old comedy with John Candy and Dan Akroyd recently. Not much of a plot, but it was funny.

I\'m considering the idea of doing some freelance writing, although I\'d prefer to write a mystery book. I\'ve thought about it a lot, but just can\'t seem to get started.

How about all of us going to lunch with my brother? You can rough him up some, and then leave him stuck with the bill. lol

I\'m seeing Dr. Martin tomorrow, and Dale on Monday. By the time I\'m finished with them, they\'ll both be seeking therapists for themselves!

Good luck tomorrow. I see a new shrink today. Ugh. We can compare therapy stories. HA.

I\'d looooove to go to lunch with your brother. I think it\'d be very therapeutic for me. Then you can come to lunch with mine.

What if you eased into writing a novel? I read a study where they had two groups: one focused on quantity and one focused on quality. The group who focused on quantity produced more AND better. I decided to set a goal of a painting a day. Sometimes, they are really awful. You could start with a small project of a story a day. Or a plot a day? I think discipline and easing into it are key.

Keep us updated on how the appointments go.
