Stuck Again

Tuesday, October 21, 2008 – 2:30 P.M. Some of my wheels have been taken away from me, so I will quite literally be stuck at home for an indefinite period of time.   The door-to-door transportation service we have at Denver, known as Access-A-Ride, waited until late yesterday afternoon to notify me that my eligibility for the service has expired (beginning tomorrow) until I have gone through the recertification process.  That could take anywhere up to a month or more.  It looks as though I will have to try riding the buses to all of my appointments whenever possible.   This is not as simple as it may sound.  I have to roll in my wheelchair about three blocks to get to the first bus stop.  Before even doing that, I need to know where I intend to go, and what buses I will need to get there.  Knowing the times I need to catch them is also a help.   Some of the buses stop at very odd locations.  Oftentimes, they will let people out, seemingly on grassy strips in the middle of nowhere.  That will not work for me.  There is no way I can check ahead of time to see where I will be getting off -- on either a grassy strip, or other concrete sidewalk.   Snow is predicted overnight, and that can make my situation even worse.  There is no possible way that I can roll through three or four inches of snow.  I have not had to contend with this for several years, because I have had access to the door-to-door transportation service.   I wish that I could say that life is wonderful, but on days such as this, it is anything but wonderful!   Quotes for Self Image:   "When life’s problems seem overwhelming, look around and see what other people are coping with.
