String of bad luck this month
So far June's been pretty crappy for me. I sprained my knee (thankfully only a minor sprain!), but then right when I was starting to walk without a brace this guy accidentally stepped on my toe and completely massacred it. It is not a pretty sight. I taped it up, but it still looks like crap My friends have now nicknamed me Franken-foot.
And a few days ago my boyfriend begged me to come with him to a charity event at a local art museum. So I basically hobbled around on my knee, had to deal with every old guy pointing out my Franken-foot, and then trying not to puke from my migraine. The museum has a new "light" display, so the whole museum is full of these florescent light fixtures that either burn your corneas or play annoying music on loop. Normally I would think these light "sculptures" were cool, but I couldn't enjoy them, and I have a bad feeling that I probably offended a lot of the artists with my trying-not-to-puke face.
The migraines are a new thing for me. I've never had a problem with headaches before, but ever since I've had my uterine polyps removed I've noticed that I'm getting a migraine like five days before my period. I thought it was a fluke, but it looks like these migraines are here to stay. I've had them happen on schedule now for three periods in a row.
If any of you ladies have problems with hormonal migraine I'd appreciate any advice. I'm a total newbie at this. I was going to get Excedrin migraine, but it has caffeine in it, which I'm trying to cut down. I bought an ice pack and that seemed to help. I'm also wearing my sunglasses and trying to avoid bright lights. I'd appreciate any tips or advice. These migraines are really kicking my ass.

So sorry you are dealing with this, leg injuries and headaches are the worst! I have been getting migraines since the age of 5 (genetic, all the women on my mom\'s side get them). I use to get really bad headaches before my period, and what I find that really helps is a cold cloth or ice pack. I like the cold cloth since I feel like I can to contour it to my head better. Also taking motrin as soon as I get the feeling a headache is coming on, so much easier to control it if caught early (which applies to all pain in general as I am sure you know). Also, if you think they are getting really bad and are willing to take a PRN medication, you could ask your doctor about getting a script for a migraine stopper, I have used several kinds and have found that imitrex and Axert have worked best for me. BTW, Excedrin migraine is definitely helpful, but I don\'t take it anymore because of the caffeine, and although caffeine has shown to work for a lot of people with migraines for some people it is actually a trigger. OH! Also, some people feel as though magnesium helps with migraines, you could try to take a daily supplement to see if it helps, or increase foods that have it naturally (like blackberries, yum!). I would just be careful with overdoing the magnesium, too much and it can act as a natural laxative...
Good luck finding something that helps!
Thanks for the advice, VallyWillis! I went out and bought some Excedrin migraine, a few more ice packs, and I\'ll look into magnesium. Wow, you suffered migraines since 5? I didn\'t even know kids could get migraines. That must be so difficult, I can\'t even imagine.
Again, thanks for the tips.
No problem! I had done a lot of research on migraines a couple years ago when I was having daily headaches, turned out I had a brain tumor compressing a nerve, not daily migraines, but the research was very informative.
Whenever I tell my dr\'s how long I had migraines for they look at me like Im crazy, but I know they were migraines and they were triggered by heat. We use to live in a beach town, so my mom would take us to the beach all day when we were little and the heat would give me awful migraines. The heat still bothers me, as well as right before my period, and when there are changes in the weather (some people are sensitive to changes in barometric pressure) but I am happy to say the last couple of years I have gotten migraines a lot less often! I hope something starts working for you, migraines are so painful especially when you schedule doesn\'t allow you to sit in a quiet, dark room. One thing I will say about the Excedrin migraine, when I was cutting down on caffeine I would only take one pill instead of 2 and I would pair it with Motrin or something without caffeine in it, just so the caffeine wouldn\'t overwhelm my system.
Feel better!
Poisoned~ i too get those piercing hormonal migraines. they can show up two weeks prior to the onset of my menses and then can come and go as they please until i friggin start. miraculously they can reappear in the same exact same spot as they originated the month before..... anyways, i take 2 excedrin migraine, drink a STRONG cup of coffee if i don\'t feel like im going to hurl and go lay down in a dark room where i pray the remedy kicks in....
i so woulda puked at that gallery with the light display....so kudos to you for not doing so. : ) also, i hope \"Franken-Foot\" has healed nicely. hugs, always, jenny
There is something you can get called Migralief. It was recommended to me by a neurologist I used to see for migraines. It is just vitamin B6 (riboflavin), magnesium, and feverfew which is supposed to really help with migraines. You have to take it for awhile to get the effect of it but it has potential. Unfortunately I had an allergic reaction to the feverfew, broke out in hives after taking for a week so I can\'t say whether I would have had relief from it or not. You can get it on amazon
