Street Racing Trgaic Story Two
I remeber sitting there watching my son and daughter, the pain in their eyes.I wanted so much to change it all.My husband was shaking so bad and the pain for losing his name sake was unbearable. We were asked if we wanted to see Mike.I was the only one who wanted to and I had to.The nurse took me to this room that was off the beaten path seemed to me.I walked into the room and just stood there. The nurse left me alone and said take your time.My handsome son laid there looking so peace and calm. His hair was perfect and he had no signs of an accident.I wanted so much to shake him and say get up..u need to come home. But instead I touched his hand which was warm.I touched his face and gave him a kiss.Told him I loved him, took his personal things and slowly walked out of his room.I wanted to stay with Mike all night because I hated the thought of him being alone without his family. But I had to leave because my family was waiting for me in the car.The sad part of this I was so grief striken and wanted to see my family, I didn't see Mike's friends in the waiting room. How they got there so fast and before us..is still mind blowing.Mike's best friend Mike was there and he saw me but I didn't see him.I was furious with the hospital, they let Mike's best friend Mike in to see Mike because Mike said he was his brother. And they let some of his friends see him.I called the hospital once I found out and raised holy hell. And they couldn't apologize enough. The ride home from the hospital was silence and why??? Why didn't Mike come home when he was suppose to? He was always home at 10 because he knew he had work the next day.Why did I go to bed so early? All questions running thru my mind and not knowing how I was going to make the dreaded calls to family members. What I didn't know at the time,my mom stepdad and my brother were home getting ready to head to the hospital, somehow they heard Mike was in an accident.
We decided to drive to the accident scene which was 5 minutes from our house and the scene was unreal. We knew very little about the crash and what happened. We just know Mike was the passenger in the car and he took 90% of the crash. The driver had hit a pole in front of a donut shop and that was what hit Mike's door.We found out Mike was Lifestared from the accident. The driver the so called friend..walked away from the crash with onl a couple of scratches.Talk about luck and the unluck for Mike. My blood was boiling at that point but kept my cool. I had to take my family home for I knew that calls had to be done because news was probably traveling fast about Mike Jr and I wanted the family to know from us.My daughter and I took a ride to Mom's house, not knowing they had headed to the hospital. I was knocking on their door and windows,I was panicked because they wouldn't answer me.I tried calling them and I could hear their phone ringing.I decided to go back home and keep calling them.On the way home, the drivers brother, stopped me and I climbed out of the car...I just looked at him and said what the h*ll was he thinking???? The brother had no answers, just he was very sorry.I finally reached my mom on the phone,I told her to turn the car around come to my house.Mom said,Mike's gone and I said yes.She told me she loved me and see me in 10 minutes.Mom,my stepdad and brother arrived at the house and we explained that the doctors did everything they could but Mike had passed. The pain and heart was unbearable to see in their faces. One call at a time,I called my brother Cal,he was in shock and couldn't believe it.He had called Mom to verify it.Then I had to call my brother Frank...his wife Deana answered and she thought it was a dream. She handed the phone to Frank and I told him Mike Jr had passed away.He kept saying what? We hung up and he called back..he was pretty shocked but said he would be home soon.So..I called my cousin Kate and she kept saying no not Mike and I had to say yes.I had to call my Aunt and Uncle but waited until the morning and of course I called my stepmother to let her know.I called Mike's best friend Mike's mom Holly..she was in disbelief and numb, she had so many questions like I did.I asked how Mike was doing and she said he was like in a coma and didn't want to talk.I told her to tell hime I loved and everything will be alright. They would stop by later on.My brother Al who was with Mom and my stepdad Pat,told me he saw Mike that night at Walmart with the so called friend. He had helped Al put a grill in his truck.Al was the last one to see Mike alive from the family and to this day..it still plays in his head that he should of had Mike come with him.I told Al that he should cherish that memory and don't worry about the what ifs.Mike called his brothers to break the news and it was heartbreaking to see the pain and the hurt in my husbands face.Noone understood where I was getting my strenghth from...but I knew I had to be there for my family.I grieved in silence and I knew Mike was with me helping me thru it all.For now I will leave off here but will continue with it later. This has really been difficult to this point but the next part is extremely difficult.

It is just tragic. It is unnatural for us to outlive our kids.
It is amazing how we manage to do what needs to be done at the time. They say it is shock but I think it is our kids getting us through the horror. It is family that keeps us from giving up. I am not sure I would be here if it were not for my granddaughter, son and husband.
I hear the shock and anger you felt at the time. And I am sure there are times when those feelings show up again. At least they do for me.
Take care.
Love and hugs,
Marlene
Your right,Marlene. If it wasn\'t for my son, granddaughter, daughter and husband plus my mom and brothers.I would run until I couldn\'t go any further. They are my rock and always there when I need them.Take care.Love & Hugs.Liz.
Yes, we somehow just do whatever it is that has to be done. I felt like I was on remote control or something. Numb and yet \"functioning\". Making plans and yet my mind wasn\'t working. It\'s a bizarre time, bizarre experience no mother should ever have to have.
Tightest of heart hugs~~
